Allow setting of custom library hero and logo of non-Steam games.
When you click on a non-Steam game, the page has a blank banner at the top with default logo text.

We should be allowed to right click -> set custom artwork on both the hero and the logo.

Additionally, I'd like to see a UI to manage all of the custom artwork associated with a game. For example, right click -> manage -> custom artwork; then a window pops up displaying the library cover, hero, banner, and logo with options to change each one.

The old library was certainly nice in that they displayed screenshots from the game as the banner art.

The banner art now is much better than screenshots from the game.
well maybe if you hate your screenshots cuz they are crappy lol, but a lot of us liked seeing the things we make a screenshot as the background, not the pre-rendered pic designed by a dev that never changes ( -.-)

im for this tho, its also annoying that the Non-Steam games dont have that Valve symbol next to them cuz they dont have a store pic, just like regular games would have their store pic / label show up next to the game name when someone was playing that non-steam game and you looked at them in your friends list, so put that back for default plz and let us choose the Icon at least or a pic to use as our own title pic

i remember back before 2014 when you clicked a game in the Details view the Colored Sections letters would change their color based on the majority of color in the screenshot that ends up the background, so the spot it said Friends who play this game it would be Red, Green, or Blue text depending on the screenshot, or the Community / Workshop / PlayTime / Screenshots and all the quick links to the store etc. on the right side of that old window, but at some point steam decided that "wasnt cool" i guess lol i dunno it was cool but they dropped it, and things like that and the screenshot backgrounds were good, efficient, low performance was of personalizing and customizing the library for users

Bump

Yes.

A singular image->add custom would be fine. Tons of games have ugly heroes and title text.
right now it seems like you can only set the actual Tile image that shows up for the game on the Shelf view areas, so you right click the game there and go to manage and Set Custom artwork, although i would still like to see the Title image at the top when you go into the games page be customizable or just randomly use one of your screenshots like the Details view used to

Agreed, I would love custom "box art" for the games myself.

there does seem to be custom "Box Art" which im guessing you mean the little box icon for the games in the Shelf areas etc. you just right click it and go to Manage and Set Custom Art option, although you cant set it in the area when you click a game on the left side panel and see the little long banner like art pic at the top of the game with the Community content below, although personally id like to see that banner art just pick a random screenshot of yours for that game like the Details view did, but being able to custom set it would be nice too

you just save a pic for the game like the cover pic from google images etc. aim for a 2:3 ratio or 3:4, i made a pic for a game thats 400x625 and it fills it fine (maybe even a 3:5 will fit without the image distorted)

The library box art is 600px x 900px. You can read more about it here.
word i figured it was close to a 2:3 ratio, and it scales nicely anyway

This is needed badly, the new UI looks terrible with non steam games. Though maybe that's intentional.

Yes, this is the only thing I have gripe with.
I love the rest of update.

The idea to shuffle screenshots like it used to be before as hero image would be also a nice touch.
Maybe also ability to add short game info.

+1 ... I would give 3000 if I could :)

I hope not, I'd like to see them to go GOG Galaxy 2.0 route to unify libraries, as design of Galaxy is not to my liking.

seems if you make the image a larger resolution then the non-steam games box art icon will show up the vertical way and also the horizontal way when you hover the mouse on it or its in the most Recent Played slot, so it has a 2:3 ratio with 600x900 as the lowest resolution where it doesnt scale it up, but if you go higher like 1000x1500 then it shows up horizontal as well by cropping out a wide image with the one third of the middle, so go as big as you can basically in case you get a higher res TV / monitor sometime and it will scale it down which is easier than a scale up as well

(EDIT: seems i was mistaken lol wasnt based on resolution but that when a non-steam game is in the 1st Recent played slot that is wide you can set the custom art for just that wide pic, then when it goes back to regular box size you have to set it a 2nd time there for them both to show up, when i added my pic to a game that was in the wide slot and it showed up i thought it meant it was working for both till that 1 game moved out back to regular box size, so you set 2 different pics per 1 non-steam game or you can use the same vertical one and it will just cut out the middle ground of it, thanks Vindi lol :rfacepalm:)

an option to set the Hero image would be nice (im guessing this is the Banner like pic at the top of a games detailed screen where the Community section is), or just have it use a random screenshot the user has like the old Details view did, and we can already set the Icon for non-steam games in that games Properties options where you set the name of the game (if you dont know how google search how to make an Icon pic file .ico)

I can confirm the above that you can use both vertical game covers and horizontal (which appears in the last played game bit) which is at least something.

I've tried manually creating a hero/hero_blur/logo on disk in the folder with the rest of those images with a filename corresponding to the correct appid steam generates when you add a non steam game, but no dice.

At minimum valve should allow us to manually set the hero banner. I don't mind if it doesn't automatically generate from screenshots. I'd even script something up to add the hero images automatically if the functionality were to be enabled. Such a basic change especially when considering GOG and Playnite excel at this stuff already.

xP thats funny i tried the same, usually thats my 1st thought when it comes to stuff like this is a good old fashioned swap but there seems to be something about the images steam recognizes, it does the same thing with screenshots with the uploader, you cant just copy and paste a pic into your games screenshots folder and have the uploader pick it up and upload it to your screenshots area in steam, so im guessing there is some kind of DS in which case an option would be nice

agreed even an available setting from steam would allow us a lot more options, even more so than the ones the setting itself provides lol
