Option for "Classic", or to disable "What's New"/"Recent"
I honestly liked the old library layout a LOT better than this new one with the "What's New" and Recent" smacked into one with the rest of the previously sectioned library options.

I understand the need of wanting to make Steam look "smooth and up to date", but adding subliminal marketing to a customer's library will not positively influence to purchase more games. Especially not when it (and I understand this can be due to it being Beta) lags a lot just rendering the whole thing.

Since the option to view different sections has been removed from the drop-down under the [LIBRARY] button, I'd honestly plead for at least the option to customize what is shown on the library page, or if possible the option to revert it to the classic view (which would have my preference). Some might like the new layout, but I personally prefer simple, sleak and easy to browse, instead of the new Beta being flashy, bulky and with some redundant functions.
I mean, why add Community content when there's a Community button right on the top of the game page..? That will just bloat things up!

EDIT: Also, the option to remove [Favourites] in your Collections section... It's annoyingly in the way.

//Regards.

The What's New I get is typically concerning updates for games I own, but it should definitely be able to be turned off. Providing a new feature with an off switch is always a good move for keeping users happy - the people who want it use it, and those that don't aren't bothered. Everyone wins.

"What's New" is pretty much the same as "Recently Updated" on the store page except that it shows more recently played titles, at least for me. (edit: and it also shows dev posts posted on the community hub)

It's not really a tool to advertise but it can be used as a "hey we have a sale or new content" by the devs.

edit: I do agree tho. It should be optional.

Aye, mostly for me as well, but I also spotted a "What's New" for an MMO F2P game which I never played before, so it's not totally airtight there yet.

That, plus I'd rather see the "Recent Friend Activity" in the game tab when I select a specific game. This because there already is a "Trending Amongst Friends" section on the Store Featured page for this, as well as I could simply check my friends' profiles if I was interested.

Still, I don't hate how it looks, it just bothers me that there's absolutely no option to customize what is shown in, or which feed wheels are visible.

There’s nothing to argue about, many did not like the new look of Steam, make the choice of the classic look and everyone will be happy ..

All just kinks for us to iron out, right? Once people are done discussing improvements/tweaks to the Home menu itself, we can get the Details screen tidied up, hopefully.

Well, as I said, some might like it, or will simply get used to it soon enough. But I personally dislike how bloated and clunky they made it. There's some good improvements as well such as the option to switch to "Ready to Play" or "Recent Activity" in the list to the left. It's just that they also added a lot of redundant information that's already on the Featured page in the Store or can be accessed easy enough through somewhere else if anyone would ever be interested.

So either an option to retain Classic view, or the ability to completely customize what is shown in the display wheels would help a lot for most people.

Well, I am just hoping they keep most the generic information on the Featured Page instead of trying to push for having it shown in the Library Default Page too. I'd rather have that they'd spend some time on smoothing out the kinks on library information instead of adding more information not relevant to the Library.

Yeah, redundant information just bloats everything up, there's a serious need for some trimming.

Speaking of trimming, wish I could remove the "Favourites" list from My Collections... What if I don't have any favourites? It's just in the way now!
SalmonSammun Sep 19, 2019 @ 2:22pm
I don't have any Favourites either, and that bugged me since the beginning.

Exactly, same here. Now THAT is something they can improve upon, haha.

Not being able to disable "what's new" tab is scary. I always thought Valve would give us a fair amount of customization options with the new steam. This is not looking good. Library should be a comfort zone, not a social mediaish homepage.

I hope someone from valve/steam reads this thread, the whats new part need a hide option, I don't use it or want it, it can be on the community tab out of the way instead of bloating up library, or at least hideable.

The library itself now is slower to use and takes longer to load games up, to the point where I have now pinned games I play to my start menu instead of steam, so I don;t need to load steam up to play my steam games.

This is an ok workaround, but now also means I will not see steam offers/sales as I won't be launching steam since I don't generally play online games, surely valve can see that this will affect visibility of sales etc and reduce possible revenue for them from sales?

Also, the font is now very comic sans like and not easy on the eyes, plus I cannot find a way to disable game icons, nor to make the games list wider since it is now way too narrow.

Finally, why has a long list of games I removed a long time ago suddenly reappeared? If I delete a game, it is for a reason, yet now theres a bunch of f2p games I tried and didn't enjoy clogging up my games list. Please sort it. I was looking forward to gaming tonight and have now just closed off steam in dispair and lost all interest.

The What's New section is literally about games you own. If you think you haven't, at some point, installed whatever it is showing up for you, you are wrong.

If you don't like it then right click the thing and hide it/tell Steam to show you less news for that game.

I don't want the 'whats new' to appear AT ALL. There seems to be no way to hide it, or at least to put it lower down so it's not needlessly clogging space up. I don't want/need/care for what's new, I just want to go to library, choose a game and play, not have this fugly bloatware slowing it down.

I've hidden most of the games that I had hidden before, but it's still giving me news on games I don't have installed, or play, or care about (to be fair I don't care for that tab at all, it should be in community or somewhere else that only those who care about can go to it).

Shouldn't have to spend the next who knows how long teaching steam what I do and don't want to see, when it was fine before this godawful redesign.
