BUG - Play time reset to 0
ISSUE
After installing the latest update tonight, the play time on all my games reset to 0. Launching a game starts the counter over again.

OS
Windows 7

STEPS
Select LIBRARY from the main menu
Select Any game

RESULTS
Time played does not appear. If you then also play any game, then check its play time, you will see that it begins counting play time again from zero.

EXPECTED
Correct play times to be displayed.

FYI, the game play time in our steam profiles are still correct. Reckon the library is reading the time in from somewhere else that was wiped after a recent beta patch...
so, there is nothing to fear that i will lose all my hours? If its stil in online profile, than it is ok for now? I really want those hours to show:)
I'm not in a Steam Client Beta and I've got the same problem. The Library just states when the game was last played, but nothing for the number of hours. If I play a game it will start counting from 0 again, and when I quit it says the number of minutes I jsut played as its total. However, if I then restart Steam it displays the correct total hours for that game, but not others.

I've noticed that the Library can display up to two games' hours correctly, before reseting a previously correct one to zero. But again, the community profile page displays the correct total hours for my games.
Good news, the problem is fixed! (Last Beta update)

Thanks for saying something, I opted out of the beta and forgot to opt back in, so I had no idea a new beta client was out.

Thanks Valve!

Ah, so it is! Opted back in to the beta to try it out, and sure enough it's fixed. That's great news.
nop, problem still here...even worse. My COD MW2 and Black Ops hours and last played are completly gone. Have no hours and no last played :(. they are gone on client, in online profile it is all there luckily

Yep even after this little update it's still broken, but in a new and excitingly different way!

This time it is showing values for all games, but most of them are nonsense. It's claiming I have 9 hours for Antichamber, when I know for certain that I have only played it for around 1 minute to test that it works.

EDIT: It appears the correct value is shown after you execute the game. Weird.

EDIT2: After a Steam restart all games appear fine. No idea...

Seeing as the Beta is fixing this problem for some people, I thought I might try opting in to it and see if it helps me.

I've never done the Steam Client Beta before, so have a quick question:

When the Steam Client next officially updates and I'm in the Beta, will I be removed from it? Or will I have to leave the Beta manually? If the latter, how will I know that there's been an official Steam update, seeing as the Beta people get it tested first.

Also, has anyone who's joined the Beta to have this game time problem fixed now left the Beta and their game times are remain OK?
Here's what I've discovered since joining the Steam Client Beta:

Total horus for a game now display properly on the Library Details view. When I exited the Beta they disappeared again, so for now they only seem to be displaying when you opt in to it.

HOWEVER, it seems that whatever game you play, the total play times for ALL GAMES are increased by the time of your last game session. So if I've already played BioShock Infinite for 25 hours and Braid for 13 hours, then I play BioShock Infinite for one hour, when I go back to the Steam Library it will say I've played Braid for 14 hours. These times are reset to their correct ones when you restart Steam.

In fact, I'm not entirely certain the game you play actually updates its time...
I noticed the same thing.

But it's not really what you describe: I've played a game for 30min and all others games were increased up to 3 hours.
But after restarting Steam, all is ok.
It seems actually that just having Steam on is causing game times to go up! I noticed that Dear Esther has a total play time of 77 minutes when I start up Steam, but now says it's 80 minutes!

Think I'm gonna opt out of the Beta and hope this gets fixed soon.
Why is no one from Valve posting here? They could at least let us know if they're going to fix it...
still not fixed...i still have no hours nor last played in some games. Do you guys have all fixed? In my case COD MW2 is not working (no hours and no last played time). This problem is in my client
