[Bug report] Source based games keep adding US keyboard layout

Hello! This issue has been reported long time ago but its still present and not resolved.

Whenever i start a source based game it adds US keyboard layout that is only seen in language bar and not in region and language settings in control panel.

I think it started happening when i reinstalled l4d2 and now it happens also with tf2, portal2, hl2ep2 and maybe all source based games.

To remove it i first have to add US keyboard layout and then remove it. I have only my local language as input in "region and language" and location set to united kingdom since i don`t want programs in my local language on windows 7 64bit.

It is very frustrating since it keeps changing the layout at random if i don`t remove it.

Same problem here on 3 different computers running Dota 2 on Windows 7 x64 and Windows 8 x64.

Same here.
I have

• "English UK - US Keyboard" (primary)
  
• "Russian - Russian Keyboard" (secondary)
  
  Steam is ran as administrator (otherwise Steam doesn't work)
  Running Win 8 and 8.1 on other machine
  Both machines Windows US language, Steam english, all games english.
  Launching any Valve game adds "English United States - US keyboard" to the language bar, but not into languages preferences list.
  Some times (rare) it actually did even add 4th one, "English United Kingdom - UK Keyboard".
  
  Problem might be because I selected UK as region when installing Windows (even though I chose US keyboard). But that's just my presumption.
  It appears that this happens to people who don't have "US - US" as one of input languages, am I right? (once again, in my case, I have "UK- US" & "RU - RU" )

This happens to me as well! Dota 2 keeps adding the English US layout to my computer running win 8.1

I've fixed it by adding "United States - US keyboard" and moving it up in the list so I could remove the "UK-US" and leave US-US as primary input (secondary Russian).
So, now this issue does not occur anymore for me on both rigs (8 & 8.1, I use Microsoft account to log in so it syncs my settings between machines).
So I closed my yesterday's steam support ticket.

Still, it is not a solution for people who don't need (and don't want) to use US keyboard input.. sad thing is, it seems like this problem has been around for a while and not fixed yet, so no reason to hope it will be fixed any soon.

Same problem. Appears on Windows 8.1, on Windows 8 everything was fine.

I tried this solution[www.sevenforums.com] and deleted US registry keys:

• Deleted branch HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Keyboard Layouts\00000409
  
• Deleted correspondig registry key (00000409) from branch HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Keyboard Layout\DosKeybCodes
  
• Did the same in branch HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002
  
• It left me only with 2 English Input Languages in Language Bar Settings

This solved the problem, yay!

Deleting US registry is hardly a solution, but sure a workaround. Thanks.

Does this cause any problems when the Source engine forcibly tries to add the foreign keyboard to Windows?

I haven't had any problems yet. You can easily export specific registry keys to use them as backups if something goes wrong. But I haven't used mine yet.
