Right click EP2 in your Library -> Properties -> Betas
I tried J.P.'s comment about opting into SteamPipe Beta, as this seemed the easiest (and in my mind the most unlikely to work) . BUT IT DID WORK> Alyx Vance now has her voice.
The rest is just my trials and further blather.
When this "mute" problem happened on 2 of my pc's I realized it was not my doing. I just got lucky with enough googling and found this thread.
The response from my steam ticket was boilerplate and did not fix the problem, I have pasted it here.
"Please try the following:
Exit Steam entirely.
Browse to your Steam installation (Usually C:\Program Files\Steam\)
Rename the "steamapps" folder to "old_steamapps"
Re-launch Steam and re-install the game.
Once the installation is complete, test the issue.
If this resolves the issue, you may copy the new files into the "old_steamapps" folder and rename it to "steamapps" to restore your other games without re-downloading.
If the issue is not resolved, you can rename the folder back to avoid having to re-install other gamec..."
I am going to add this threads link to my steam ticket and maybe it might trickle along the intarweb and help a few other distraught gamers.
Okay, i extracted my sounds folder and then put it into the instructed EP2 folder, and im not seeing any results or maybe im doing it wrong. will someone please help me? :(
Opt into SteamPipe. Right click EP2 in your Steam Library, Preferences -> Betas
Might as well do it now, since the conversion is going to become mandatory in the future anyway.
