Is it safe to use Steam beta client on "prod" env?
Hi,

I have Steam on my home computer with a bunch of installed games. I call this environment "production". I also have a work laptop, work Linux machine etc. I installed Steam client there as well, and enabled this checkbox to make my Steam client update as frequently as possible. It is kind of my "dev" env.

The question is: is it safe to enable this feature at home?
I don't want to reinstall Steam or all my games if something goes wrong with beta update. How long have any of you guys have this checkbox enabled at your home computers? Have you ever had any issues with beta client?

Appreciate your feedback.
Hope you understand my precautions, it's a pain to re-download some games with sizes above 20Gb.

Thanks!

Its a beta so like any beta at any time is could suddenly stop working after an update. Basically when you use something that a beta you agree to the risks of using it which means you could loose all the data at any time.

That being said, its never happened to me. I've been running the beta for a long long time now. And except for the very rare 3 or 4 patches in a day, generally its been pretty good and not annoying.

I've got over 500gigs of games installed right now so it would be quite annoying to have to reinstall all that.

Just remember that each persons computer is different so what might be stable on mine, isn't stable on yours. Thats just how betas work. I've been beta testing stuff in general for a long long time so I know the risks and have accepted them.

I totally understand the risks, just wanted to know if Steam beta is stable (and how stanble) for people who agreed to use.

Thanks for your reply!
