[SOLVED] I clicked "Steam Beta Update" and now steam won't start.
My TF2 wasn't working, saying "Steam Beta must be running to make use of FInd Servers"
so I went into Steam > Settings> and clicked Steam Beta Update.

Now when I try to open up steam, it says "Steam must be online to update. Please confirm your network connection and try again"

What can I do?
(if you have any fixes for my Tf2 problem, I'd really appreciate it)

Right mouse click your Steam -client's shortcut > Properties > General > Target -field
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\Steam.exe" -clearbeta

Try again.

After booting it up once, try to re-validate your Steam -client files instead.

  1. Navigate yourself to
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\
  2. Try to remove everything except
    • Steam.exe
    • SteamApps -folder
    • userdata -folder
    • ssfn(numbersequence)

  3. Re-launch Steam

  3. Re-launch Steam

I did the -clearbeta thing and it STILL says the same thing!

EDIT: Remove EVERYTHING? How would could that possibly not destroy steam?

Because your games are on SteamApps; your screenshots and saves are in userdata.
SteamGuard info is in SSFN.

I said exclude those files.

If something gets messed up, I can reinstall steam right?

I'm sorry, I'm just really hesitant in deleting everything but 4 files..

Anyway, I did that. I have 2 steam.exe s (I had to do this as another 'solution' which didn't work)
Should I get rid of one of them?

EDIT: I tried to turn on steam again, and IT DIDN'T WORK! What the heck?!

Odd that you have 2 Steam.exes.

Is the error message the same as before?

Yes! And I did get rid of one. It still didn't work.

EDIT: except there is a strange amount of spaces between the first and second sentence..

Next step I guess is:
https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=9828-SFLZ-9289

Ensure your firewall allows Steam through.

I looked in my firewall, it has steam checked in private and public. I was wondering, is it possible for me to login in another computer and change the settings there?

You mean the settings from within Steam > Settings?

Some of those are device only; others are account saved settings.

Depends on what you'll change, but you can do so.

I was going to change it back from Steam Beta Update to NONE

As far as I remember, that carries over from one device to another. So do try.

Although the launch parameter should have basically done the same.
should have; but since the risk is there it didn't. Do try.

OMG. IT WORKS.
I went into steam as administrator, and it worked! Then I went to the settings, and for some reason, it was already set on NONE.
I went back to my other account, and tried it there, AND IT WORKED!

Thank you so much for helping me :) Anyway, I must leave now. Thank you once more.

EDIT: Even TF2 started working! :D
