Feature request: Checking private profiles that send you a invite
Lately I've been getting more and more friend requests by unknown accounts.
These are all private accounts, so I can't see who or what they are (if I might know them from an game or not).

It may be usefull to be able to see their account despite it being set on private. They send me a invite, so I want to be able to see who they are :/
Or be able to chat with them to try to see what their intentions are (big chance it's someone trying to scam people, but I can't really verrify that).

If you see the profiles invite is private & is level Zero, guess the chances, of receiving an instant chat message. It is the usual scam/phishing stuff: hey wanna trade, here is a screenshot.jpg of my inventory... :/

That would defeat the purpose of private profiles.
I get those too from time to time, and yes it is usally the phishing/scam but I think he is saying if a person is legitimate and its set to private and you then get an invite that you should at least get to see the basic information and games they have. it only makes since cause your giving someone promission to see your stuff that way.

This is indeed what I meant :)
So you might see a bit of someone's background. For instance I've known some people during my time playing C&C renegade, which might have taken new usernames, which I wouldn't recognize at first sight.

If you really feel compelled to check everyone that adds you to see if they are potentially not a scammer then just accept the request. If it spits out the "hi my friend want trade with you here is his link" then block and remove. Plain and simple

Not really. If you want to remain private, you shouldn't be sending out mass invites to people you don't know. You should only be sending invites to people you know in real life.

So if you get an invite from a private profile, they have no intention of being private if they are sending invites to you and you have every right to check their profile to see who they are.

I support this idea 110%.

This could be a bit Draconian, when you have your profile set to private it's obviouse there is no intension to socialize with other steam users. Therefore it would be logical to say that friendsrequest sould be disabled in private setting by default and enabled in some sort of public setting.

@TheBlueBelt.
Also a nice solution :)

Another solution would be not allowing limited accounts and/or accounts under a certain Steam level to set their profile to private. That would be a win-win situation as it wouldn't hurt us, long time users and it would also be a psychological motivation for new users to buy more games and reach a higher level. (The leveling system probably exists for this very reason.)

Ok, so I rejected some private profile's request and reported it.
It adds me again :/

Looks like I might have to start blocking people -.-

How so? They sent you the friend request, and friends should show up as public unless it's set so that only you can see your profile.

Google what the word 'private' means.

They lose that privacy when you send them a friend request. If you have it set to Friends Only (as most do), people you send friend requests to should count.
