This new link filter
Please make it open the filter URL in the browser, not in the Steam client. The current implementation is awful. It pops up the Steam client window before opening the browser, so if I have the actual client window closed and I click a link, the window shows itself for no reason before opening the actual link.

This and an option to disable the linkfilter.

Yeah, everyone with half a brain knows to not enter their login and password on non-steam websites.
I've been using this service for seven years now, I don't need anyone to hold my hand damnit

I am not a fan of linkfilters. This is the exact same thing I hated about RaidCall and I still can't tolerate it. I am good enough with computers to know exactly what I am clicking in group chat. Please give the option to disable linkfiltering.

Please do not make it open Steam, I only use the chat window and it's very annoying to have Steam pop up for no reason when clicking a link. Option to disable could be nice but without the annoying popup I wouldn't mind missing the option.

Please do not constantly open the Steam Library (when you have it minimized) when you click on a link, this is completely unusable. It also takes a long while to open a link now (the linkfilter is very slow, but then, Steam is too lately). Just give us an option to disable the link filter, I do not need it and do not want it. Plus, I didn't even receive a warning in the first place.

Bump.

If you're going to add Linkfilters, do make it an option to disable it. It's kind of a privacy concern to have something like this forced.

On top of that, the Linkfilter is kind of lackluster entirely. Trying to load links WITH it equals.. nothing loading! Imagine that.

Catering to the lowest common denominator (Not going to name names/countries), is fine, but I would consider it unacceptable to not let the people opt out of something that is supposedly in for their security if we know how to handle it ourselves

. If need be, make me answer a skill-testing question. Hell, I'll write a 20 page essay on why I'm not so bad as to need protection from my own shadow here. Just give me the option.

This feature is horrible. Here is why:
- It increases the time to open a link, as first the client generates the link, then it's opened in a browser;
- If community is down or very slow - just like now - so will be your link opening! It's so "fun" when I get error -101 when I click on, for instance, absolutely innocent facebook link in chat;
- Library tab in Steam client gets closed (changed) due to this, and if main window was closed, it pops up resized and placed randomly;
- Like it was mentioned above, it's a privacy intrusion and a mild insult. I don't want to get stalked nor protected against my will. I am mature enough to realise what links are good and what links are not much; I know where I shall input my login data and where I shall not under any circumstances.

Please make it optional. There are currently only two semi-solutions. First, opt out of beta client, but killing all its features. Second, manually copy&paste every single link from chats. Needless to say, none of these is acceptable.

Sorry this is the first beta I am going to have to skip, I get sent a lot of links, and I don't want the Steam Window (or anything related to Steam) opening everytime I am sent a link to chat. This 'feature' needs more tuning before it goes live. Sometimes it wouldn't load links at all, other times it would try to load them in steam and would result in an error message in steam.

Please either fix this feature, remove it, or add an option to disable it.

Just because an URL has .jpg on the end doesn't mean the server will send you a JPEG file. A server can send you whatever it likes in response to any request.

I still want to turn this garbage off, it doesn't take a genius to know you're not supposed to give your login info to anyone, and this takes like five seconds to check a link.
And if someone falls for a scam they deserve to lose their account, one less idiot on steam.

I quite agree on that. However, main point of it is so Steam Support is less encumbered with "i lost my account :((((( what do" tickets.
Still, making it on by default and optional is the best solution. Those who easily fall for such traps won't even go to options to disable it (95% of their settings are default), thus staying protected as intended.
And there can be the line with "by turning this feature off, you agree to never complain in case your account was stolen via phishing" or something.

Link filtering has nothing to do with 'privacy'.
