Unable to open web link in steam with Chrome as default browser
This includes opening web links from the store/community/message from other players on steam chat. It works when I have IE10 as default browser but as soon as I switch back to Chrome, nothing happens when I click on a web link within steam.

i´m using chrome aswell but the hyperlinks from chat messages or via the community all open in a new chrome tab. chrome is my default web browser. i also have the IE 10 installed. i guess it is a somewhat local issue.

Are you on Steam beta?

The solution is to uninstall and reinstall Chrome!

Try going back to normal release steam, beta always has bugs, hence the beta part!

It's a problem with Windows/Chrome, not Steam. No external programs are opening with Chrome when links are clicked.

its not a chrome bug. it only happens in steam and it started yesterday. Im use Steam as my main chat program and its ANNOYING to need to copy anything

It happens here as well, and I am NOT using chrome. It opens up steam as if loading into the store/community pages etc and then opens the link in my normal browser, without closing the large stream screen. It's very inconvenient.

Do this:
1. Uninstall Scroogle Chrome
2. Problem fixed

uninstalling chrome is not really an acceptable fix ...sorry

This thread is 3 years old Badboy. Even if in effect a problem seems to be the same on your screen, rootcause will in all likelyhood be different. Furthermore, if we can fix an issue ourselves, then per definition it's not a bug. After all this is the Bug Report forum.

Please add your computer & browser specs and any info you might possiby have. What have you done to investigate? See the sticky
How to report a bug so the DEVs get the info they need and we (your fellow gamers) can attempt to recreate the bug on our machines to give the DEVs even more info.
