Steam Notes unreliable in keeping note contents

This bug applies to the current non-beta version of the client (if there's somewhere better to report bugs for it, please either let me know or move this thread; thanks).

The problem is that in regular use, Steam only sometimes saves the contents of notes, and/or sometimes syncs written notes with an old version, making the notes feature more or less useless.

There are possible workarounds involving cutting-and-pasting the written content again each time, or limiting to only having one note in the list, but I can't vouch for those personally (I stopped using it as soon as it started losing text). I couldn't find anything recent in this forum - last was a similar issue reported in May 23, which looks as though it was resolved at the time.

Posting in the hope of bringing to the right person's attention, because when the feature was working reliably it was a very useful thing to have. :)

Sorry to be that guy, but +1. I have noticed this, and it REALLY sucks as I thought the Notes feature was an incredibly useful (though I guess niche) feature when it came out, but it being so unreliable completely ruins that.

I have also noticed notes I've typed in game go missing, which is extremely annoying as then there is no way of recovering said information.

I played for 8 hours yesterday, and shift+tabbing to the notes worked great. Today I log in, ALL 8 HOURS OF NOTES ARE GONE. This is unreliable. Completely unusable in it's current state.

Can anyone recommend a browser website that will act like Steam notes, so I can convert the homepage to the note site? Because I will not be using Steam notes for the foreseeable future.

Here to contriboot my +1. I stopped using the Notes feature entirely because of the constant resetting. I'd love to use it, but I just can't waste anymore of my time in its current state.

BTW does pasting images work for you? For me it doesn’t, only a broken icon gets displayed. Or i’m doing it wrong? I simply Ctrl+V from the buffer.

i looooved using steam notes. but as of late i noticed that parts of the notes disappear when i reenter the game. like its totally random when it gets cut off. i had like half a sentence of the last entries and the rest was gone.
it happens so frequently now that i can indeed not use notes anymore because the work i put in gets destroyed.
please FIX ASAP or take it out completely

Using Microsoft One Note is a good alternative. It performs similarly to Steam Notes with real-time saving and a vertical list of note names to choose from. The only thing that sucks about it is that it doesn't have a dark mode. I will be using this now until Steam officially comments on this topic. I've made the site my Steam Browser homepage and use that. I tried Google Docs, but that does not work with the Steam Browser.

Steam Overlay

1. Added support for bookmarks saved per game in the overlay browser.
   
2. Improved reliability of saving for notes.
   
3. Fixed scroll position, selection, and undo history getting lost when switching between notes.

Praise be! Time to test (switch to Beta Steam).
