Steam browser in Big Picture mode

Issue: When opening the browser in big picture mode it defaults to google (like normal). But if I open a new tab and type in something such as "hi" or a URL it won't load. If I go to favorites and open goolge or twitter and then change the URL it will work. But not if I open a new tab. (details below ^ above is not full explanation of steps)

OS: Windows 8

Steps:
Turn on Steam

Click View

Go to Big Picture mode

Click on the help sign (top left) to load browser. Takes you to your profile http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Click on the home button at the top left

Click on the current tab

Exit out of all your tabs

Click new tab

Enter anything into the URL and it won't load

Results: Nothing loads and just shows theme background

Expected: Page/google search should show


EDIT: I believe the error has something to do with closing all the tabs. If one page loads and you leave it, the new tab will work. You have to close all tabs to get the error. The only fix I have found is leaving big picture mode and turning it back on.

EDIT 2: I tested it again but by clicking on web at the bottom left of big picture instead of the help sign. I noticed that after loading a website from my favorites (google.com) I clicked on home > current and I couldn't close the google tab. I opened a new tab which loaded fine. Then I closed both the google tab and empty new tab and then opened another new tab which had the same bug as above.
