Controller won't successfully bind after update

After the update, my controller stopped working. I went ahead to the controller settings and while it can detect my controller, I am unable to successfully set it up. I'm on MacOS Sonoma 14.5, 8BitDo controller.

Controller > Begin Setup > Inputting controller buttons

After inputting all the buttons, my screen freezes at the "Setup complete, preparing to test input..." window.

I've restarted my laptop and Steam and restarted Bluetooth connections multiple times, and used the wired option. Nothing has worked. I thought it was just a loading time problem but even leaving it out for a long time doesn't work. Can I ask for help with troubleshooting this? Thank you so much.

Same issue on Windows 10. it's a Generic Controller It no longer works at all. Even on the non-beta branch this happens.

Same. My Gamecube gamepad wont work anymore. It's wired and used to work great on Steam and now it's just not compatible at all

Same issue here. Generic ps3 compatible controller working before the update not after. Very frustrating. I have tried everything I can think of to get it to work. I am on Windows 11 by the way.

Windows 10, Generic/360 controller no longer work for myself. This started a few days ago on Beta branch, switched over to Main to wait until it got fixed, but it looks like it was pushed to Main branch today. Hope this gets fixed soon.

Edit: Just switched back over to the Beta branch and it seems that it was fixed on that side for me. Unsure why I have the issues on Main branch now.

I have the same problem. My regular controller stop getting detected. I also switched to beta branch but still dosen't work.

If it’s not working on stable I’ll switch to Family Beta and it works until I reboot my machine. Then it won’t work again and I’ll go back to stable branch where it’ll work once again

Wow this just keeps getting weirder. They're right, PC reboot breaks it, then switching Branches fixes it. No idea how that happens.

I just tried to map my Arduino buttonbox. Mapping seems to register all the buttons, but then got stucked in screen "Setup complete, preparing to test input...". So apparently this is broken by Steam update :(

Same thing here, I just made a thread in the "Help and Tips" section.
I'm temporairily using Joy2key to work around it.

It’s super annoying. I wish Steam would just revert the change.

Even the controllers that work, don't work ok. This is even affecting the steam deck. It's steam input that's messed up.
Was playing okami fine on the SD, updated steam and now the left stick doesn't work for certain actions. That game ONLY supports steam input, not even xinput so i't pretty much unplayable right now.

I solve this by going to "Steam/Settings/Interface/Client Beta Participation" and pressing "Steam Beta Update" or "Steam Families Beta" depending on which one was highlighted to restart Steam.
After that, my Generic Controller works fine, but I have to do this everytime I launch my PC.
