Download size and progress are incorrect
ISSUE: The download progress bar in the main window does not actually show the progress of the download. This happens since the last beta update (Feb. 5th / 6th).

If you open the "Downloads" page while downloading a game, you can see two progess bars:
- "Downloading data" - shows the actual progress of the download
- "Installing files" - shows the progress of unpacking / updating files on the disk (which is only useful for big update operations or heavily compressed files)

You also have the progress bar at the bottom of the main window during downloads (instead of the "Manage Downloads" button).

This progress bar displays the status of the "Installing files" progress bar instead of the "Downloading data" progress bar.
This means it is completely useless as a progress indicator for downloads, since it does not actually show the progress of the download.

This was not the case before the latest update:
It was a combination of the two status bars: both data download and file installation were considered in the overall main progress.

Please fix this.

Also for some reason after the download finishes it sometimes shows an incorrect file size, e.g. 63 GB but the actual downloaded game was only 17 GB in size.

I'm also encountering this and it seems like it's probably due to the "Installing Files" bar. With the latest version of the beta the main client bar (present on this page, in the library, etc. on the bottom) is NOT using the download progress like it used to but the "Installing files" bar. It seems like someone probably just referenced the wrong data for where this bar is getting built from and used the installing files bar source instead of the download bar data source.

@nian, for the 63GB download you're noting is that after the download finishes but it shows 17GB were downloaded? Depending on the game the compression can be pretty impressive so the download is smaller than the installed data after being uncompressed.

The actual installed size of the game is 17 GB. (shown during download, as well as in the library & Storage settings)

But the completed entry on the "Downloads" page lists a greater number of GB (which is incorrect).

I just noticed that this also affects the download progress bar in the detail view of a game (the page that appears when you click on a game in your library).

That progress bar says "Downloading", but no longer shows the "XX of XX GB downloaded" label and also incorrectly shows the progress of the "Installing files" progress bar.

Still not fixed in the latest beta from February 14th.

I have a same problem, I can't download ARK: Survival Ascended.
Because when that game cost over 205 GB, but it incorrectly says almost 675 GB.

Is this problem fixed ?

Yes, the issue with the wrong game size for completed downloads has been fixed.
Now the "completed download" entry shows the amount of downloaded data instead.

As for the progress bar, latest beta massively improved the accuracy, as far as I can tell.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

Do you have the latest version of the Steam client?
These changes are also in the stable branch, so you don't need to be in the beta.

Have you tried clearing the download cache?

If this does not help, you should probably create a new topic for your specific issue.
