Steam says I'm on mobile when I'm not???

Apparently I've been on steam for two days straight. Friends asked if I leave my PC on all the time now and I said no. Cause I turn it off when i sleep and when I go to work.

Two days or so ago I logged back into steam mobile to chat with friends while I did stuff away from my PC. Apparently that's the problem since I can currently see I am online on mobile.
Thing is....I'm not.

The most hilarious part is when I go 'offline' on mobile the icon goes away, but when I SIGN OUT the icon reappears?????? It makes no sense. What the heck is this.

According to friends who I am subjecting to numerous tests, even if I log off steam on PC they see my account set to "Away" and this is after I sign out of steam mobile. Is this mobiles fault? Is this just an update on PC issue??? Please help!

Yes, but a friend told me that it was set to 'Away' when I went 'Offline' on mobile and exited out of steam on PC (or when I turned it off completely).

It isn't so much a problem, but really an annoyance. Since I can have all of my steam using devices turned off, but still be seen by my friends as 'Away' instead of 'Offline'. :c

Wow, I am experiencing this issue even now, all of nearly 2 years later. Did you manage to find a fix?

It says 'Online ' when I set 'Online' on my laptop and my phone is switched off.

Holy bees, not gonna lie, didnt think anyone would ever answer this XD

I don't think it's a confirmed fix, but I had to just uninstall steam from my phone entirely. I think that did it, cause after that the icon went away and I installed it again on my phone. I've since changed phones and the issue hasn't cropped up, but who knows lol;;

I simply think that the tolerances for when Steam checks if the app is still active is too high. When going offline, you're often online 2+ hours afterwards despite closing out of the app entirely. Clicking the "Go Offline" button doesn't even work properly, having to click it multiple times for it to have any effect (if any at all).

Not having control over your online status is very annoying and still to this day makes me not really want to even touch the app.

No, but it seems to now work (with only a minute or so delay) with my new phone which is Android where my old one was Apple. Which one do you have? It might be a difference in the app version for different platforms.

Several years later, and I'm now also experiencing this issue. You'd think Steam would've fixed this by now.... :/

When steam fixes something I will be very surprised l o l. I wonder if there is a difference between the original steam mobile app and the newer steam chat app now that, that is a thing. :v I'm sorry that it's happening to you now after my initial issue. I will tell you, the only way I got it to go away was to uninstall the app off my phone and then some time down the line I reinstalled it because I needed to use 2-step authenticate for a login.

I am also having the same problem at the moment. I have tried turning my phone off, toggling between offline and online mode in the desktop client and app, but nothing seems to make a difference. It looks like I am permanently online, even though I am not. Does anyone have a solution to this problem which doesn't involve deleting the mobile app?

Just 'Go Offline' on your phone app and It'll fix it
