Indeed. So, what I'm getting from this conversation is that "Create Start Menu Shortcut" equates to "Add Launcher to /Applications" for a Mac?
robspeed.rocks 15/ago./2018 às 13:49
Yeah. When the option is enabled it creates a little wrapper app in ~/Applications (not /Applications). This also causes it to show up in Launchpad.

So we have the option to add the shortcut to our desktops and add the shortcut to a folder no one ever uses. Handy.

The handy part of it is that if you have the launcher in ~/Applications, the game will show up in Spotlight or similar search tools like Alfred.
Frungi 18/ago./2018 às 17:15
Same as if it were in /Applications, except that would be a reasonable place for them. But I guess Steam would need admin access for that.

I think on Windows the entry goes into the user start menu as well which makes sense, since another user may not have the same games.
robspeed.rocks 23/ago./2018 às 23:02
Yeah, ~/Applications makes perfect sense here since other users shouldn't be able to see it.

Spotlight will show applications regardless of where they're installed*, so it'll find Steam's games even if both options were disabled during installation. I'm pretty sure Alfred also uses the Spotlight index, so the same would apply there as well. Launchpad seems like the main exception, so I think it would make sense to change "Start Menu" to "Launchpad" and simply remove the "Desktop" option.

*Or, at least, any location that isn't excluded from its index.

Robspeed, the default installation location is in ~/Library which is a hidden folder by default under macOS, so isn't indexed by spotlight unless changed as far as I'm aware. That's the advantage of it for me.

It's been 4 and a half years and this is still happening with the latest stable release! Please fix this, Valve...
