We are speaking about firmware version/s compatibility of the Elite S2 exclusively here, not simply having the paddles working. It is well known that for the paddles to be configurable through Steam, you have to first and foremost use the default profile on the S2.

Updated my Elite S2 to FW 5.17.3202.0 after opting in for the Steam Beta channel and the STUPID PADDLES FINALLY WORK AGAIN with Steam Input!.. About damn time!!! Just as I've expected, small wee pee update note in the background with barely any acknowledgement - Quote: "Improved reliability of Back button.".. Not even specifying ANYTHING at all, like what "back buttons", from where, who, when, why, where, what device.. anything.. :| That was not reliability anyways, that was straight up not working 100% all time every time!..
Whatever.. good that it FINALLY GOT SORTED!.. THANK YOU Valve!..
Now that I've finally discovered proper Gyro Aiming (and I mean PROPER, as in gaming mouse accuracy and latency, etc. - on select properly supported games) I am quite done for the most part with these now antiquated anti-innovation, anti common sense dinosaurs of "standard" controllers that we are stuck with for like 100 years.. Trying to use this controller (or this OBSOLETE "standard") now, no matter how well mapped, feels like it's missing two arms and a leg while trying to aim.. Lately I am finding myself using my DualSense Edge most, if not all of the time.. and if it's not the Edge, or the regular DualSense, it's an addon pack to turn my Series Controller into a Switch Pro Controller (thus adding native Gyro support, like the DualSense - or EVEN the now old DualShock 4!) With a regular controller it now feels like playing Counter-Strike with only the keyboard and no mouse.. :|
So.. yeah, nice fix Valve!.. A bit too ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ late, but.. whatever..
EDIT: Hmm, I've just opted out of the Beta channel and the back paddles on the Controller do still work. Happy days I suppose. It remains unclear so as to what or who did REALLY fixed this.. issue, the Beta update (which I am now no longer on though.. ) or maybe one of the latest FW updates on the Elite S2.. Regardless, good that they are back working on the latest FW, so now I can also ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ use that ♥♥♥♥ controller with the retarded M$ Accessories App in order to configure it once more..
Can confirm, I updated to latest firmware without touching Steam beta and my paddle mappings are still working. YES!
Given that we don't pay a thing for steam client and this feature specifically, I'm honestly just grateful to Valve devs for finally fixing it.
Yep, Happy days! Even if I no longer use this pad, still I'm happy that it's working.. Just in case.
Yeah, that was my biggest frustration and it wasn't because oh God Almighty I just wanted to be on the latest FW.. as I couldn't care less as long as the one that came with the controller wasn't buggy or had any issues that I would be aware of.. It was only because of Micro$haft's retarded FORCED FW upgrade policy, where if you aren't on the latest FW, the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ App would just BLOCK your controller from connecting because it being out of date!..
