Xbox Elite Series 2 (FW 5.13.3143.0) and paddles mapping
Hello!

I have Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 and I'm using extended feature support for xbox controllers in Steam. It used to work perfectly fine, but just a few days ago I got a firmware update for the controller - it's version 5.13.3143.0 and now paddle mapping doesn't work anymore. If I try to use paddles when no profile is selected on the controller (i.e. default profile), it seems like there is no input from paddles whatsoever. If I switch to any of the profiles, the paddles just work as XABY duplicates.

I'm not sure if that's an issue with the firmware, or if Steam's driver just doesn't support the new firmware.
It is reproducible both with the stable version of the client and with the latest beta.

I created a support ticket: HT-6N8G-P86N-PD6G , but was asked to write a message here, so here it is.

Thank you!

♥♥♥♥!NG FINALLY! (Beta Channel for now.. )

https://store.steampowered.com/news/group/4397053/view/5651507201768194518?l=english

Updated my Elite S2 to FW 5.17.3202.0 after opting in for the Steam Beta channel and the STUPID PADDLES FINALLY WORK AGAIN with Steam Input!.. About damn time!!! Just as I've expected, small wee pee update note in the background with barely any acknowledgement - Quote: "Improved reliability of Back button.".. Not even specifying ANYTHING at all, like what "back buttons", from where, who, when, why, where, what device.. anything.. :| That was not reliability anyways, that was straight up not working 100% all time every time!..

Whatever.. good that it FINALLY GOT SORTED!.. THANK YOU Valve!.. :steamfacepalm:

Now that I've finally discovered proper Gyro Aiming (and I mean PROPER, as in gaming mouse accuracy and latency, etc. - on select properly supported games) I am quite done for the most part with these now antiquated anti-innovation, anti common sense dinosaurs of "standard" controllers that we are stuck with for like 100 years.. Trying to use this controller (or this OBSOLETE "standard") now, no matter how well mapped, feels like it's missing two arms and a leg while trying to aim.. Lately I am finding myself using my DualSense Edge most, if not all of the time.. and if it's not the Edge, or the regular DualSense, it's an addon pack to turn my Series Controller into a Switch Pro Controller (thus adding native Gyro support, like the DualSense - or EVEN the now old DualShock 4!) With a regular controller it now feels like playing Counter-Strike with only the keyboard and no mouse.. :|

So.. yeah, nice fix Valve!.. A bit too ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ late, but.. whatever..

EDIT: Hmm, I've just opted out of the Beta channel and the back paddles on the Controller do still work. Happy days I suppose. It remains unclear so as to what or who did REALLY fixed this.. issue, the Beta update (which I am now no longer on though.. ) or maybe one of the latest FW updates on the Elite S2.. Regardless, good that they are back working on the latest FW, so now I can also ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ use that ♥♥♥♥ controller with the retarded M$ Accessories App in order to configure it once more..

Nope, didn't work for me with Elite 2

I got it working paddles on my Elite 1 and maybe it works on the Elite 2:

Open the Xbox Accessories app and create a new profile where you don't have any commands on the paddles and register it to the controller normally.
If Steam is open when you do this, restart it, because sometimes it doesn't work.
Try reprogramming the paddles inside Steam with anything and test.

I use the paddles to control the volume inside the games on my Steam Machine now

We are speaking about firmware version/s compatibility of the Elite S2 exclusively here, not simply having the paddles working. It is well known that for the paddles to be configurable through Steam, you have to first and foremost use the default profile on the S2.
Does the latest firmware still have issue..? I'm scared to press the "Update required" button on my Xbox Accessories app
I wouldn't press it..
Yes, the latest firmware still has the issue.
Just tried updating again for the first time in about 6 months. No difference don't bother.
I tried this but it broke my analogue sticks,
I kinda gave up on my Elite 2 and now I'm using my DS Edge more. I was using two paddles on my Elite S2 anyways, I just can't do 4, even if the game itself could benefit from all of them.. it gets too crowded on the back side.. Especially as recently my rubber grips are starting to come off (I suspect this has to do with me cleaning it once or twice with some IPA and cotton.. pads.. ) No issues with mapping the Fn L/R or the back L/R Paddles/Half-domes on the Edge with Steam Input and so far no rubber coming loose from the plastic case.. Also the replaceable Thumbstick modules adds longevity to it (got two extras already, just in case.. ) I don't like the rumble emulation in most games on the PS5 controllers, but, I can live with it better than I could live with the rubber coming off my grips.. And firmware upgrades that BREAK COMPATIBILITY WITH Steam..

Can confirm, I updated to latest firmware without touching Steam beta and my paddle mappings are still working. YES!
Thanks for letting us know!
Just tried it with the latest stable steam version and FW 5.17.x, can confirm it's working again. Nice!
Given that we don't pay a thing for steam client and this feature specifically, I'm honestly just grateful to Valve devs for finally fixing it.

Yep, Happy days! Even if I no longer use this pad, still I'm happy that it's working.. Just in case.
Wow, this is awesome! I've held off on updating just because of this.

Yeah, that was my biggest frustration and it wasn't because oh God Almighty I just wanted to be on the latest FW.. as I couldn't care less as long as the one that came with the controller wasn't buggy or had any issues that I would be aware of.. It was only because of Micro$haft's retarded FORCED FW upgrade policy, where if you aren't on the latest FW, the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ App would just BLOCK your controller from connecting because it being out of date!.. :steamfacepalm:
