Can you check the controller's inputs and see if the paddles are even working? On my PC I can test all of the controller buttons in Control Panel-Devices and Printers-Right click the controller icon-game controller settings-properties. In default mode, every button lights up except for the paddles which don't light up at all. They're just totally disabled in default mode. If I rebind them using an Xbox Accessories profile then the paddles just emulate another button. The paddle buttons never light up, they're just straight up disabled.
So whatever Microsoft did, it completely disabled the paddles when using the default profile, so the paddle inputs are totally inaccessible by any other software, and inaccessible to steam's controller configurations.
Open xbox accessories app, then hit windows + R (run) and input this command:
xboxaccessories:\\firmwareupdate?legacyDowngrade=true
It should then give you option to revert.
I am still able to assign actions to the paddles in Steam's controller configurator. However, no matter what action I assign to the paddles, they will only reproduce the XABY face buttons on the controller.
I am sure I am using the default profile, the extended feature firmware is installed, etc. I have tried both wired and wireless.
Ideally, this will be fixed with no need to downgrade the controller's firmware version.
Please keep us informed here, I'd love to know if/when Valve fix the enhanced support so I can update the firmware again. :)
I am on Windows 11 and tested the custom paddle settings in The Witcher 2.
By the way, is there an official FAQ or manual on Steam for the Xbox Extended Feature Support? I wasn't able to find anything.
EDIT: I would like to note that as mentioned above the firmware downgrade didn't work over the wireless connection, but wired worked fine.
- The XBox Accessories App has be open
- the Controller has to be connected via USB and be switched on
- You have to be within one of the config profiles
- then you press Win-R and enter the command
- you will have to acknowledge that going back to an old firmware version is a bad idea two or three times (in other words click "OK" on the prompts that come up)
- The controller will then start to go back an older firmware version (since I just got the device, the one I bought it with).
