Steam Browser Auto Opens Two New Windows & Causes Potential Freezing Issue

ISSUE:
While using the steam browser in the Steam game overlay, if a user clicks on a link that is already set to open in new window/tab steam will open two duplicate new windows of that content.

This is especially true when opening a YouTube link, there will be an echo effect and the entire steam overlay will freeze, causing it to be completely unusable until you shut down the game and restart Steam.

OS:
Windows 10 x64

STEPS:
1. Launch any game via Steam Library
2. Open Steam Overlay via ALT + TAB
3. Open Steam Browser
4. Direct web browser to website with links (i.e. reddit)
5. Click on link that opens new tab/window (i.e. imgur link)

RESULTS:
Two identical windows open

EXPECTED:
Only one new windows opens

STEPS FOR YOUTUBE FREEZING OVERLAY
1. Repeat steps 1 thru 4 above
2. Click on link that opens YouTube

RESULTS:
Two identical YouTube windows open playing audio and freezing entire Steam overlay

EXPECTED:
Only one YouTube windows opens (not causing overlay to freeze)

While overall on my computer and for viewing Steam Backgrounds full size this issue is lessened after installing a newer mouse driver, with latest Steam Beta update the Steam Page Back arrow now always goes back 2 pages in stead of sometimes.

speculation

As i sexperience it now on my laptop, it's a problem with Windows and (mouse)drivers that has been patched previously but re-appeared with latest Cumulative updates for Windows 10 (x64), and is more pronounced in Steam then it is on other applications becouse of the Ghost Steam Controlers trouble.
Note, it's a laptop with an external mouse attached next to the build in touch pad.

As i always had to clck twice for the Windows dropdown menu to power off the laptop, i do not yet dismess the possibility of a relationship with inventory item information not showing at a first click.
Note, after installing latest mousedriver (i could find) the problem with powering down disapeared completely, while on the other hand the need to click twice for Steam inventory info got worse with latest Steam CLient Beta build.

@everyone, I found out that right clicking the link and selecting "open in a new tab" should fix the problem. Been doing that and everything has been fine since.

For me, this issue has gotten worse.
Today anytime I middle click a link from /r/globaloffensive it opens in two windows and mouseinput in the overlay breaks.

this is still an issue (Windows 10 x64). Whenever I am in the steam browser in-game, if I click a link that opens a new window, the window will open 2 duplicate windows then browser and the steam overlay will freeze. I will be unable to use the browser or any of the in-game steam overlay until I restart the game. Steam will continue to work as an independent app (if I alt+tab out) and the game itself will run fine, I just wont be able to do anything to the steam in-game overlay or the browser.

hm, i posted in this thread too. The issue as i had on my computer, not only with Steam, did die out. However, following the many threads on a freezing overlay with a 2nd window opened, my comment from the 5th in this thread is not valid anymore.

It's annoying to have to do, what seems to be happening is the 1st window is demanding exclusive input focus but it appears behind the 2nd window, if you grab it on the edge on the left or right and close it it works fine.

W7 32bit same problem. Clicking on some links causes steam overlay to freeze. Cant do nothing, but multiple pages are opened. Background page keeps refreshing all the time. Task manager shows that theres a lot of webhelpers opened, way too many. I started to face this problem about a month ago.

I must resize window than I can close window.
