Recording - no audio

ISSUE
No audio is recorded in RDR2 when using the steam client beta recording feature. This happens when the “record audio from” setting is set to game audio only, or games and selected programs. It happens both when it is set to record in the background, and when it is done manually with ctrl + f11. About one week ago, this was not an issue, it has started recently.
OS
Windows 11 Pro, Version 23H2 (0S Build 22631.4037)

STEPS
• Make sure your recording is enabled.
• Open Red Dead Redemption 2
• Allow the opening gunshot to play, and close the game
• Review the recording to check for audio
RESULTS
No audio is recorded.
EXPECTED
Audio should be recorded when the option is chosen (Game audio or games and selected programs)
TEMP FIX
Set “Record audio from” to All system audio

Look, I just want to update this: The temp fix is now broken. I had it set to all system audio, and I did not get audio FOR OVER 3 HOURS OF SOME OF THE BEST GAMEPLAY IVE EVER HAD....needless to say, I am NOT happy

Edit: Changing the "record audio from" setting to "All System Audio" fixed it!

I can confirm the selecting "All System Audio" works for Squad and Hell Let Loose 🤦

I play CS2 and for a week now it doesn't record audio, but I've tried it in game only, system only, and system with programs and it still doesn't record any audio. It's a shame that Steam always leaves out the features that work and people like, I'm sure it will take months to fix it as usual.

I just checked my cs2 recordings and you're right, they worked fine for weeks and now they have no audio at all. It's honestly a shame. Maybe they should just add OBS integration instead, at least thats reliable. Some way to trigger OBS in the background automatically or smth.

confirming I have the same bug on Windows 10 - played MechWarrior Online for weeks with no problems, today it stopped recording game audio a couple hours ago. Settings are set to "game audio only". Changing audio setting to record "All System Audio" works correctly.

It's with all games I have tried to record game only audio in. The last game recording that has audio was on 12/18. I had not saved a new clip until yesterday, 12/21, which had no audio in the recording, so it stopped working at some point after 1 PM on 12/18.

Yes, that's exactly what I experienced too, some time after 12/18, the game recording with "game audio only" option stops working :(

Recently started happening for me as well. Have some multi-hour-long Death Road to Canada recordings that are completely muted because of this bug.

It seems that after the Steam client is updated, the background recordings of games have no sounds

Happening in 2025 across even more games now, GTA 4 had audio but GTA 5 Enhanced had no audio in the recordings at all.
