Maybe it has something to do with the fact I have a little over 2k games on my account but it just randomly started happening this week.
Going to the collection tab in the library doesn't crash the client, only the home section instantly crashes the client.
But atleast that means it isn't a problem with my computer.
So I guess going over 2040 games is about the sweet spot where the library stops working then, as I think it started happening when I got to 2043 games.
Yea, that sounds about right. Sadly I don't think this will be fixed very soon. we can't find a single person claiming they have this issue so it seems to be happening to really a small number of users.
My friend has way more than 2000 games it's definitely happening after a certain number. On the same computer, accounts with only a few hundred games worked just fine.
Contacting support seems a bit useless. They just suggest looking at help articles and point to "other software conflicts" which is funny because we tried only having Steam running without any other apps up.
Sounds like an identical issue so it's 100% a fault with the Steam software.
Man this sucks, I hope they actually take this issue seriously since it is affecting the stable client and not just the beta.
I had similar issue, if you still have problems - I found a solution in another topic on this forum. Try deleting the below file:
achievement_progress.json in Steam\userdata\"numbers"\config\librarycache.
Mine had almost 99MB, the new one - after deleting - has around 400KB. And that solved the issue for me, library works like a charm again.
I had the same issue since a day or two, but notibly the client got more unstable the days before. Really hard to find any information. I subscribed to this disscussion and you my friend brought in the solution a few minutes ago.
You fix, fixed my steam. Thank you
I'm not sure just how connected it is to library count, as I have well over 10k and this crash only started today. I did install the most recent nvidia update today (quite a few days late), and I did play a game, but idk if either are connected. I've rolled back the nvidia update, cleared Steam cache, opted out of Steam beta, and deleted achievement_progress.json, disabled gpu accelerated rendering and none of that has worked.
The Collection tab workaround works with anything outside of Library and Library Home. So, you can use View > Soundtrack etc too. But these don't always work for me and often just end up crashing the same way. There is a new noticeable delay when loading my games info in the library such as the default background illustration for each game.
I didn't notice any slowing down prior to today (I play frequently), and I first noticed some slowing down whilst I was playing a game today. It didn't crash the client or my game, but the library wouldn't respond (clicking did nothing, no visual change) so I had to use the browser to check some achievements whilst playing. After my game, I took a break, came back and only then realised I was basically locked out of the Library as it immediately restarts whenever I try to click on a game in the Library.
Edit: Did want to add, I am able to see everything else through the client such as the community tab and news etc, just not the library/library home which restarts the client. Since others seem to be having the same issue, hopefully a fix will come sooner rather than later.
Edit 2: Final choice was to uninstall/re-install Steam. This worked (for now). Save a copy of your steamapps folder ("C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps") before you do this or you will lose all your installed games.
I'm having the same ish problem where everyone on steam works even under the store category besides the featured page- as soon as I go on there then my steam freezes, goes black, makes me screen display size hella small to. I've done everything listed above but I still can't access featured and everytime I open steam it makes my display small as hell every game I play with steam.
