Big Picture Startup Movies are squished when playing

Noticed this in a beta a while ago and thought it would be obvious enough to be fixed, and it ended up in the stable release...

Seems to happen with all custom startup movies from the points shop, at least the ones I have bought

Note that the movies play fine when previewing them from Settings, its only on startup that they play back squished. Comparisons below.

I also encountered this issue, it only appears on screens with a resolution of 2560 * 1440

Probably a 16:9 thing then, it happens to me at 1080p as well

It's true, I tested 1080P and this problem occurs, but in a custom resolution 2304*1296 (also 16:9) it shows up fine, it's very strange

I noticed the same thing. The startup movies are probably all made for the Steam Deck's 16:10 aspect ratio, and they're being stretched (instead of cropped) to 16:9. This is still an issue on the latest Stable Client.

So they seem to have both fixed and broken this at the same time, from the latest stable update

The video is no longer squished, but now it doesn't fill the whole screen, and instead shows black bars on the side (I didn't know these videos were 16:10), seems to happen with all intro videos

This has started to happen for me recently, it started a few weeks ago and it’s happening in the last 3 beta updates.
I’ve reported it here, hopefully they can fix it soon.

I also made a post about this. It’s showing in 16:10 with black bars on a 16:9 screen. Just started happening with one of the recent patches. Hope it gets fixed soon.
