the issue affects not only gyro to mouse, but also gyro to joystick (beta).
STEPS:
- set gyro to joystick (beta), choose gyro activation on anything else but right pad touch.
- activate the gyro with the button from the last step
- you will find out that the activation button doesn't work
- touch the right pad
- gyro is now activated
ISSUE
In Feb 2 beta build, steam input gyro-to-mouse activation option no longer works. My gyro is stuck constantly on.
STEPS
Go into steam input gyro-to-mouse settings
Set activation button to any button on the gamepad
Set button behaviour to 'off'
RESULTS
Gyro is always permanently on
EXPECTED
Gyro should turn off when selected button is held
edit: forgot to mention im using a dualsense controller

I am a little relieved to see that this thread confirms that it does not seem to be my local problem. Thank you!
I am playing with a PS4 controller DualShock.
I had the gyro operation set to "use as joystick" and the gyro enabled button set to "left trigger full pull".
As others have mentioned, the gyro is always enabled whether the left trigger is pulled or not.
Even if I assign the gyro enable button to another button, the gyro is always enabled as well, so it seems that the underlying setting is buggy, regardless of the options.
I have also confirmed that canceling participation in the Client Beta version resolves the issue, and since the issue is occurring before and after the February 2nd Steam Client Beta, it appears that this update is having an adverse effect.
Using the Dualsense Edge, I use Gyro always on, but holding Square turns it off. I use this setup primarily for playing shooters.
This doesn't work. Square to turn off gyro doesn't work. The latest stable client doesn't have this bug so it's only in the beta.

But today, gyro is Always On, even tho nothing changed on my end. In Settings, Left Trigger is still selected to enable gyro on Soft Pull, but gyro is “always on” regardless. I also cannot make it toggle on/off instead, gyro is either always on, or always off if I set it to None.
This is so annoying bc everything was working fine and now it’s broken out of nowhere for no reason. Is there a way to entirely reset controller preferences or something?
It seems it's defaulting to Right Stick or Pad Touch for the activation method and ignoring whatever method is set by the user. I'm not sure how much help this will be, but it's probably worth looking into.
