Past successful games that remote play together worked with my friend and I both using a controller (xbox 1)
Around the listed date - Controller support on remote no longer works, however keyboard does.
Our TS steps were similar to Nootnas under the same conditions.
Sorry, I left that portion of TSing out.
I had tried using big picture mode on the remote user's computer yes and the controller wasn't recognized. We also tested vice versa where I had used big picture mode and came up with the same results. Keyboard is being recognized, however for some of the games we play this isn't ideal (such as Ys: Lacrimose of Dana, the remote user's keyboard controls the same character that the controller us controlling).
Prior to this, neither of us had to have big picture mode up before. We would simply load up the game without it while both being opted under beta and were able to participate with our own controllers.
Additionally the steps listed were TS steps that each of us had tried to rule out individual issues, and tested with multiple games to rule out a game specific/update issue.
Both the guest and host controllers work in steam big picture mode, but the guest controller is still not recognized in the Remote Play Together session.
I don't know if it matters but I am using the Steam controller and the guest is using a DualShock 4 controller, so there should not be an Xbox controller connected.
Remote Play Together seems to work fine right now. We didn't do anything differently so some update may have fixed it. Thought I should let you know.
I bought game to play with my friend but every game. I invite, put him as 2nd player. set his joystick as 2nd player. everything looks fine. and start the game.
boom his controller not working in the game. no key input. can't even start/select 2nd hero to join the game. head banding 40 min and refund the game after that.
Really wanna play with my friend but its doesn't work. :( feel bad after all that
Spent some time yesterday and today troubleshooting controller connectivity issues and ultimately what we found that worked consistently was the client (your friend) would need to simply hit ALT+TAB to put the remote session in focus.
Seems like even if the remote play session is what the client has maximized, it won't recognize the input until alt tabbing into it for some strange reason. Valve should probably fix this as it is extremely frustrating.
