[FIXED] Steam Controller Stops Responding Wirelessly After May 30th 2023 Beta Client Patch

I have downloaded the May 31, 2023 patch and this issue seems to be fixed

ISSUE
After installing the May 30th 2023 Steam Beta Client patch, my Steam Controller will periodically stop responding in bluetooth wireless mode. The Steam controller will work for a few seconds, then stop working; the Steam Guide Button light will stay lit, but no button/trigger/bumper/grip presses will activate, and the joystick and controller pads will stop registering input. This will last for about 2 to 3 seconds, and then my Steam controller will start working again for another few seconds. The process will then repeat.

STEPS

• Make sure the Steam Beta Client is up-to-date
  
• Launch Steam Beta Client
  
• Turn on Steam Controller and use it wirelessly via Bluetooth connection

RESULTS
The Steam Controller will work sporadically, only registering your input for seconds at a time.

EXPECTED
The Steam Controller works normally

NOTES

• This problem only happens in Bluetooth mode; if I connect the Steam Controller to my PC through a Micro-USB cable, input works normally
  
• If I go back to the stable Steam Client my Steam Controller's bluetooth connection works normally
  
• This issue happens in both Desktop Mode and Big Picture Mode
  
• If I have the Steam Beta Client closed but leave my wireless Steam Controller turned on, the connection is fine; the connection is only spotty when the Steam Beta Client is active
  
• I have only tested this with my Steam Controller; I am not sure if any other Steam-friendly controllers (PS5/Xbox/Switch/etc.) that are used in Bluetooth mode are affected

Can confirm that my Xbox controller isn't working over Bluetooth either. It was earlier today before the update. Already tried re-pairing the controller. It works fine in other apps, just not Steam.

Glad to know that it's not just my controller. The only temporary fix I've found right now is to just connect my controller through my Micro-USB cable. All input problems stop when I'm connecting my controller directly through a wire.

It doesn't solve the problem, but hopefully you'll still be able to use your Xbox controller without having to leave the Steam Beta.

The same here. Not working over bluetooth and not working wired as well. I'm going back to the standard version of steam, at least until they fix this problem.

I can confirm that my bluetooth Xbox controller doesnt work on most games. The strange thing is that it works with RE 2 and RE 3.

Same issue with XBone Controller in all games, if i turn steam controller support off my pad works.

Same here. As far as games concerns there is no controller attached.
But i got a weird popup menu/stats thing when hitting xbox-button in games and desktop. Newer seen that before.

Workaround for the time being in the beta seems to be enabling the "Xbox Extended Feature Support Driver" in the controller settings.

As of the May 31st 2023 update, the Steam controller responsiveness issue has been fixed. I'm not sure if other controller problems have been resolved, but my Steam Controller now functions normally when using it wirelessly through Bluetooth.

Xbox controllers worked perfect prior too May 31 update. Now they are fubar.
You can get games to detect it again using the "tip" i posted above. The controller will still behave weird and press random buttons and stick movements during game play.
