I can't see pictures or videos in steam chat.

Hello i have a strange issue which has been going on for years now, even on new computer hardware it's the same issue on my account.
I can't see png, jpg, mp4 files or links like youtube.
All i can see is the link, but the window to play it or see it in steam chat is not there and doesn't pop up.
What can i do to fix this?

Did you turn off the setting for "Don't embed images and other media in-line" in the Friends & Chat settings?

Yes. The settings are now in both the regular client settings area, under Friends & Chat (finally moved back after 5 years) and in the friends list window itself, in the Cog settings....

That's how much I use it. It got the UI treatment too. No more cog.

The artwork is completely outdated.
