Local Network Game Transfer does not always seem to work?
I just updated both PC and Steam Deck to enable the LNGT option so I could move some games across.
I had a few game updates that were downloading to my Deck and I got a pop-up on my PC, and a clear indicator on my Deck saying that it was transferring the files from PC to my Deck.

However, when trying to download Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection on my Deck, it downloads directly from the internet and doesn't try to transfer anything from my PC.

Just to confirm, yes the game's installed on my PC.

Is anybody else having this issue or any suggestions on how to potentially fix this?

For me, when I inspected the logs on my "server" PC it showed the manifest was encrypted. So I tried installing a different, new game from Steam as a test and that one worked.

After verifying the integrity of the game that didn't work, the issue resolved itself. Does that help?

Yeah, even after adjusting the firewall settings, local transfers still don't work for me. This feature needs fixing, much like the Steam Link streaming being subpar compared to every other option.
After the consistent drops of transfers in the middle of the process I'm just taking a 4TB externally powered USB 3.0 WD Mybook and doing backup and restore off of that instead. It is far more successful; and once you are at the restore portion way faster than network for me.

On the downloadee (Windows 10) I've got nothing relevant in the logs at C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\logs for that time period.

Note that a few days ago, I've downloaded the same game from the same Windows 10 machine from another Arch machine. I believe this is a new issue for me.

All the machines have fast NVMe SSDs.
All the machines are on a full duplex gigabit network.
All the machines are fairly powerful (Threadripper & 5950x in this instance).

I've also tried a remote play and it works.

None of the Linux machines have a firewall and I have never set anything firewally on the Windows machine.

I turned off my firewall completely for all networks, just to check, and it still doesn't work. In the time I've taken to use this broken 'feature' I could have just copied my files manually.

I wish steam would refrain from advertising features that do not work.

not it; that's not the issue on my end; and it happens on multiple PCs; done 8 different ones so far and same issue; occurs with home internet as well as hotel internet.

the only consistent fix (and not a good one) is to be around when transferring the games; and once it switches to downloading instead of transferring; exit steam on the receiving computer and then start up steam again and it will transfer again instead of download. This issue is 1000% 8up on Valve's end; I get no such issue transferring over network with Nitroshare. Maybe Valve should hire Nitroshare to manage their network transfer protocol.
I solved the issue by plugging in the charger to my steam deck and then the game switched from downloading from the server to downloading from my deck!

This was the issue preventing it from working for me. I guess the SD has a hidden power requirement for transferring files. Probably would be good if Valve put that somewhere lol.

Worked for me. Ripping Fallout 4 from a 5yo Win10 HP laptop to a brand new steam deck. Stable(no beta) on both. Before disabling firewall on laptop transfer rate would spike and then disconnect/switch to download, after disabling sitting steady at 7.5 MB/s transfer for a good 15 minutes now.

Thanks! Why valve hasn't mentioned that in the information I don't know, download was almost finished by the time I tried that.
This problem used to be intermittent for me. Sometimes restarting Steam would fix it. Now it happens almost constantly. Verifying files on the host seems to be working for me, but it's still frustrating to have to do that every time.

Valve, your value proposition over the competition becomes a lot less valuable when your features are poorly implemented and broken half the time.
Adding my experience trying to transfer a game onto Steam Deck from PC: I couldn't get it to work until I rebooted the Deck.

After doing that it does work without being plugged in though.
Really need to plug in charger to make LAN Transfer working(Steam Deck to PC) .:steamfacepalm:

Just chiming in that plugging the steam deck into power was all I needed on my end as well for steam deck to PC transfers. PC to steam deck worked fine on battery.
Can't believe it. Plugging it in was all it needed. God I feel like a moron
If one device still download from steam server, just restart both device and then reluanch steam on both devices, this works for me.:eye_sonnet:
