black screen when viewing fullscreen video on a mac
I'm on an iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2014) with Mac OS X El Capitan, 10.11.4 (15E65) and when I click the fullscreen button on the video for the game "Klepto" - /app/403590/?snr=1_7_7_230_150_5
http://store.steampowered.com/app/403590/?snr=1_7_7_230_150_5
It causes my entire screen to go black, but I still have audio. The only way I can get out of it is to hit cmd+opt+esc over and over.

I also have this problem running 10.11.4 on a 2009 27" iMac i7, Steam beta API v017, 1461972496. I cannot pinpoint when it started, but it has been happening for a while.

Game video previews in the small inset play fine, but when I click on the full-screen button, the entire screen goes black and remains black while the audio plays perfectly. Hitting the esc key does not release full-screen mode. Quitting the app is the only way of getting out of this situation.

It may be a low memory issue, as I only have 8gb of RAM and I've noticed since the upgrade to El Capitan lots of my apps seem to have taken a hit one way or another. Plus a seven-year-old machine. But I can play full-screen vids on YouTube and Vimeo at high rez without too much trouble, so this should be something the machine can handle.

As an alternative, how about a pop-out window that I can resize to a larger format without taking over my whole screen?

In Windows video troubles in Steam indeed sometimes can be avoided by opening the video in a secondairy Steam window. That would require holding Shift when clicking a link (linked picture, video). Sorry but i do not know how to do this on MAC.

Another alternative would be to copy the video-URL and open it in a browser.

I believe this was fixed in December. Can you confirm whether or not you're still seeing this issue?

:riddle: This is a thread from April/May 2016. Did a customer add to this thread and got the message deleted somehow?

As reported by a few users on the Beta forum (and as i recall correctly also on New to Steam, Help and Tips and/or Steam Community) there's a new issue with video's freezing the Steam window almost completely going on for several months now. So no, latest issue is not fixed. Seems to be a random ocurrance, the same video might freeze Steam 2 times but not a 3rd. happens with watching a video on the forums. I don't know if that occurs on a Mac, i am a Windows 10 user with NVIDIA videocard.

This wasn't fixed in December 2017 as I still have this problem. Since years now, on a bunch of different Macs.
