newbigpicture is obviously optimised for Steam Deck. Steam Input is being rebvuilt from ground up where Steam Deck controls are numero uno Steam Input priority. Which would be fine if newbigpicture did not break so much of the older Steam Input features/functionality before Steam Deck existed.
What is being described in OP is old steam input conflicting with new steam input (newbigpicture) and/or vice versa. That is why Steam needs restarted, poor Steam Input is being spun round in circles looking for Deck controls lol
However as one door closes another opens and the visual key at the bottom of New Big Picture Mode today ignores Switch layouts (i.e. saying B to go forwards when it's A and vice versa). Though I imagine that's already on the docket.
As an aside, and something I should really note in the feedback part of the forum, while I might be reporting these issues as I come across them I don't particularly care about my A & B buttons doing what A & B typically does on Switch. My primary interest in the toggle is just making my button prompts match Nintendo's YXBA layout vs. Xbox's XYAB layout as I have an 8BitDo controller that follows YXBA.
