[LINUX] Big Picture Mode launches to black bars, View of Desktop
ISSUE
Recently updated to the newest beta and when I launch Big Picture Mode, it looks like it attempts to launch full-screen, but instead overlays two black bars and then the rest of the desktop is visible, but inaccessible. You can click on the screen and hear Steam audio. Have to end the process to get back. Switching back to non-beta is a workaround, but reinstalling the beta reproduces the issue.

Image here: https://i.imgur.com/boJauX1.jpg (screenshot didn't take properly; imagine the white space of the screenshot is just transparent to the desktop background.)

OS
Ubuntu 22.04.1 LTS
NVIDIA 3080 - Nvidia Drivers 525.60.11
Dual Monitor, Primary Display is a Dell 2560x1440 165Hz display

STEPS
Click Big Picture Mode button on the client, or choosing to launch big picture through Moonlight.

RESULTS
Black bars.

EXPECTED
Launching of new Big Picture Mode.

I can confirm: Rolling back to stable (non-beta) version of Steam is a workaround for now.

I have this issue too. It basically bricks steam, since theres no way to opt back out, or change the settings, if you cant launch steam. I'm running manjaro linux on KDE, and I have confirmed it on 2 different machines. Mine looks a little different, it looks like my background is doing the windows XP solitaire routine, but, its the same issue.

===========WORKAROUND=============
If steam remembers to launch in big picture, it can be challenging to go to settings to turn it off

Make sure all steam instances are closed (run ```ps -eaf | grep -i steam``` and make sure only your grep comes back, nothing else). Kill any steam processes that are running
Then, run ```steam -nobigpicture```, and it'll force itself into desktop mode. Then, go to settings and opt out of the beta.
You can also use -newbigpicture and -oldbigpicture, if you want to play around
