Ps5 controller not working(SOLVED)
My ps5 controller has stopped working on all games since the last steam update. It gets recognized as an xbox controller. last time it did this i was still able to use my controller, but with oddball button settings.

however it doesnt work at all. PC Recognizes its connect, steam even recognizes its connected (when ii open big picture mode, the controller inputs work and are correct)

Soon as I open a game though, nothing on the controller works.

*edit*

Found a fix (for ps5 controllers anyways)

I went to settings>controller>general controller settings and i enabled "xbox configuration support" and "xbox extended feature support". It downloaded some xbox driver. restarted my computer. Ps5 controller works on games now AND its acting like a ps5 controller. None of my buttons needed configuring to an xbox.

* Edit 2 and fixed*

With the help of Slouken and his amazing tech skills. There was another permanent fix to this. The result of this bug may have come from anyone messing around with their controller settings in Steam>settings>controller> general controller settings. and changing button configuration and accidentally saving it to an xbox 1 controller. (like myself)
Quoted from Slouken
"So it turns out that Xbox One is the default controller type in that dropdown, so if you don't explicitly set something, that's what it will pick.
So anyone who tries to rebind their controller will turn it into an Xbox One controller."

By going to C/programfiles(86)/steam. typing in search bar "config.vdf" click on config and open it in note pad. hit Ctrl F search "dev:" and delete the whole line starting with "SDL_GamepadBind" and clicking save.

This changed my ps5 controller (which was being detected as an xbox 1 controller) back to a ps5 controller. Problem solved for me. Thanks Sloukan! :D

I have a problem with the input display every game I play (recently) my keyboard broke so I use my controller to make up to play some games such as rocket league and rainbow six siege and the output read perfectly fine as it displayed I was using my PS5 controller but I just recently tried using my controller for another game and it froze up and didn't work even though it was controller compatible but now my input display says I'm using an Xbox controller for such games and I can't change it even in steam does anyone know how to fix such problem I've tried in big picture mode and restarted my PC it still hasn't changed back?
I checked the config.vdf and removed the SDL but it still returned after saving when i opened the file also i couldnt find dev: when I try to find it.

ive done everything. my controller wont detect no matter what, but it connects to windows
My controllers not even being detected its pluged in and steam says theres nothing pluged in soo... idk what to do.
So this not only fixed my ps5 controller situation, but also my mouse and keyboard situation. For whatever reason I could start playing the game using mouse and keyboard, but once I got to the overlook with the Chumbucket my keyboard would stop responding. I dug out my ps5 controller planing on playing with it, fixed that and now my keyboard works. Booom
this has always been a major falw to steam controller configs. they make everything become a xbox controller layout and that confuses a lot of games tbh. but more improtantly playstion came out first! so i love how xbox takes default for everything lol. ever controller should have its own button layout independant to xbox. it kinda riduclius steam fails to do this.
Ye my problem is that my ps5 controller used to go light blue when it connected to steam, but when i installed fortnite, literally the second day after installing fortnite it just stayed dark blue and works in the steam big picture but as soon as i go to a game it just ♥♥♥♥♥ itself and doesnt take any inputs. I even did everything he said to fix it but it didnt work

Same problem here. I fixed it by going to Steam -> Settings -> Controller -> PlayStation Controller Support -> Enabled (NOT "Enabled in games w/o support")

OMG dude you are a LEGEND! Thank you!

I noticed this today with Halo: MCC. I knew something was fishy when the LED on my DualSense (PS5) controller stopped changing color when plugged into Steam (weird side effect maybe?) like the previous comment mentioned.

I wonder if a Steam update changed/broke this behavior sometime over the past few months.

Seconded. This fixed my problem. Had no issues two days ago, suddenly Steam doesn't recognize my controller. Absolutely insane.
Hello from two years later, I have a Victrix Pro BFG PlayStation controller (which I can set to be a PS4 and PS5 controller, as well as set it to PC which makes even Steam see it as an Xbox controller) and am also experiencing the Xbox glyphs instead of PS glyphs in game, I saw in the solution that was given by slouken to delete a line starting with in the config.vdf file, I have three lines starting with SDL_GamepadBind, do I delete a specific one or all three? I don't want to mess something up here
I have my ps5 controller connected but it doesn't work on any games through steam. it does work when I play fortnite but fortnite is through epic games, so I know it has nothing to do with my controller. However when I try to play games like Warzone on steam the controller won't work at all. Anyone else had this problem and if so how did you fix it? I'm getting super annoyed, reddit is telling me I have to download a bunch of random 3rd party programs that I don't trust and don't want to download.

Where on steam do I have to go to do this?

This did it for me ! Thank you so much ! Having the glyphs changes the experience for sure. <3
Or you could be an idiot like me and go through this whole post only to have it end up being the cord. Be better than me and start there!
