No Join Game button in Friends List Drop down menu after Steam overhaul.

Before the update that overhauled Steam and made it appear more like Discord, there was a clickable button called Join Game that would allow you to join a friend's game as long as it was a joinable lobby or server.

Ever since the update, that button has disappeared. All of my friends on and off of Steam still seem to have it, but when I right click someone's name in the Friends list or click the little arrow, the drop down menu shows up, but it's missing the Join Game button.

Now I can only join a friend's game if they send me an Invite over Steam. The Join Game button still shows up on peoples' profiles, but it only works 2 times out of ten before it glitches out whichever game I'm trying to join, forcing me to shut it off and restart it.

Operating System: Windows 10 Professional.

Steam Support said to make a post here, so here I am.
Short of uninstalling and re-installing Steam I'm not sure what else to try.
Do you have any ideas?

mine would come and go until I PERMANENTLY FIXED IT by allowing all 4 files through file wall. I have not had a single problem since! Make sure all 4 files of steam in all 4 locations are allowed through. Turning off firewall didnt fix my problem , only allowing them through did.

Tried that. Did not change anything. Join button was there until first game ran... or steam restart, or status change... afterward computer reboot was necessary to bring it back.


But killing the steam client from razer dir seems to help. So far 'Join button' is availaible everytime i check. Everything i use in razer software seems to work. No clue what for they need a steam client and why is it always running (until i gimped it).

This is super annoying. Has it really taken them this long to fix this issue? I was able to play with my friends just fine before this.

They haven't fixed anything. You need to disable the useless steam client from razer directory on your own.

I'm late to this discussion but if anyone has an answer would be brill, my join game button doesn't do anything its there and I can click it but doesn't do anything. I'm unable to join through steam for co-op I don't know why. I don't have razor or anything like that, I have done the suggestion from steam support not worked if anyone know anything I would be grateful!

Razer software - installs a secondary steam client. It makes the join button not show up at all. Frosty fixed it by allowing the second client to the internets. I fixed it by killing the second client. While the issue was annoying we could join games when directly invited by others.

Your issue is different. You have the button, it does not work.
1. Are you directly connected to the internet?
2. If yes, check your firewall settings, antivirus (try disabling them for test, re-enable then try to find what configuration issue is there).
3. If no, enable uPNP on router. Should help.
4. Can you join games when directly invited?
5. At this point i cant really help you more. Try getting someone physically to your computer, that will probably be quicker.

After allowing both steam files and the two secret steam files in razer folder and other location listed in previous posts, my join game button has worked and still works today. Now the fact that You have a join game button but it does not function seems to be a seperate issue. I would still allow the steam files I listed through firewall. If you already have done that. I do not know anything more. Reinstalling steam. Asking friends, Took 1 year for me to find all 4 files needed through firewall. Dont Give up. You will most likely find the solution. I hope you can fix it!

I am grateful for the advice, at this point I'm just trying to ask around in discussions possibly relating to my issue. The issue I've got is a black steam window whenever I click 'Join Game'. I know of there being issues with black screens for different things in steam but not sure if theres been a problem with specifically the Join Game button and a black screen. If you know anything about that that would be great if not thank you for your help!

Try different windows account. If that helps, just reset your windows account.

so the game I am trying to join on is fable 3 which I know has issues running etc but I have been told direct joins work. Thank you for the help I think I shall try posting in fable 3 discussions I have a feeling its linked to the game. I don't think I share any game with my friends that I can try that with. I am really grateful for the replies, I'm not sure whether its game or steam related.

Isn't fable using microsoft account for multiplayer?
And if its only a single game issue, it has nothing to do with the problem we've had here.

But going back to fable. Try unlinking and linking your ms account again.

Also try asking around fable 3 forums. Somone might have stumbled upon the issue. Or other ms account games forums like Sea of Thevies..

The NO join game button problem will be fixed by allowing the 4 steam files through the firewall . As for fable 3, I think asking them would be best :)

Thank you for the help I have asked on the discussions for fable 3 and hopefully will find a fix soon. From what I know regarding joining games in fable it can work through both steam and microsoft but the live server stuff got shut down so you got to work around it now with a new GFWL with joining through microsoft. As for steam I'm yet to test out whether or not its multiple games effected, I should be able to test it today or tomorrow hopefully but thank for your help and sorry for the bother
