Linux steam icon fails to work with gnome-shell appindicator extension
ISSUE
Steam icon displayed in gnome-shell AppIndicator extension (https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/615/appindicator-support/) fails to react to any mouse clicks

I noticed this after (stable) steam update today. This used to work without issues on earlier steam versions. 11th October was the last working version if I remember the dates correctly from the update notification popup

OS
Ubuntu 17.04

STEPS
1. Start steam
2. Try to click the steam icon

RESULTS
No menu opened to access steam

EXPECTED
The steam menu opens

WORK AROUND
Disabling AppIndicator extension allows one to use steam icon from bottom left corner without issues. But I prefer to have steam icon in my top bar where clock and other icons are located.

I'm pretty sure that this issue surfaced after I upgraded steam without changing gnome-shell or AppIndicator extension. Too bad I don't know how to downgrade steam to verify my hypothesis.

I have exactly the same problem since the latest steam update with Ubuntu 18. I'm surprised this update was not tested more carefully.
