Steam API features disabled mean no Steam Big Picture, yes?
DS4 controllers won't work natively on that note. I just wanted confirmation.

No — it just means Special K’s Steam API related features (achievement sound + popup, screenshot enhancement, etc) won’t work. Steam’s own features (achievements, overlay, input such as DS4, etc) will all continue working.

Huh, I tried installing K and my DS4 controller wouldn't connect for some odd reason.. that's strange.

I've encountered the same problem as well. Currently disabling the controller in big picture for MHW and using a 3rd party option like DS4Windows is a usable workaround.

It could be that Special K's XInput features are messing with it somehow. You can disable those entirely by adding a row "Enable=false" to the [Input.XInput] section.
