Writing up a thread to post my experiences with Special K with PBS.

  • Texture caching is working wonderfully, great catch ratios with it running. Avoid using Texture Staging as it can greatly reduce video clip performance. Allow caching of textures with no mipmaps.
  • Framepacing is good with the game's default frame limiter, so there is no need to use the Special K framerate limiter.
  • Block Mouse is a must if you do not want the camera to spaz out when the UI is opened.
  • Game will attempt to render at native desktop resolution when Fullscreen or Borderless Windowed is set within the game options.

    Will update more later if I find any compatibility issues.

I'm getting mouse drift, even with Block Mouse enabled.
How to reproduce:
Set custom resolution of 2560x1440 via Nvidia Control Panel. (But keep monitor at 1920x1080)
Install Special K.
Open game, set display to "Window" and "2560x1440"
Open the Special K menu, and under display, set "Fullscreen". the game will properly scale in fullscreen to 2560x1440, but upon entering the firing range, the mouse will drift no matter what mouse settings do you use.

I get that too. I gave up trying to use a custom resolution as I could not find a permanent way to fix it.

Did some experimentation with the pixel shaders and have found some possible values that can be of interest:
  • 121ef75a - HUD
  • aca4031b - HUD Text
  • 13bde93d - object shadows (enabled with High effects option in game)

These below are unstable or I am not sure how to tackle them correctly:
  • 33c23960, e59e8123 - shadow map
  • b4537a97 - shade(?)
  • 21fc154f, baedca62, dc33b3d6 - bloom passes

Hoping for a future release of Special K to implement DX11 shader editing so that I can get dirty with the overdone bloom shaders. As for the shadows, disabling shadow map causes unwanted effects with shadow rendering, so there may not be a use disabling it.

Found some vertex shaders for the water gun & jetpack effects.

014faaa7 - splash effect
37cf9946 - gun projectile
544e7ca7 - projectile effects + jetpack drips
8a7c834d - water pulse effect
94cdb2a1 - partial water impact + jet burst effect
a7ba61b8 - water refraction
edf7ae03 - soak decals

I have not fully checked which shaders are the most costly. Disabling all of them will cause invisible projectiles and jetpack exhaust.
