Then export your facial data again.
I usually make my NPC faces by starting a new game and making the character I want in CharGen or showracemenu and using spf <name> then the CharGen info can be imported using the Import button on CharGen Parts (I think that's the name of the tab - the one where you make the face). It's much easier to get a face looking right without the weird fishbowl effect in Creation Kit preview screen. You can also make a twin to your Dragonborn this way ;)
I've tried unin/reinstalling the CS but it makes no difference.
The "import" sounds a great idea but could you please give me a step-by-step idiots guide, I'd be really grateful ;)
As I'm impatient I tried this just as you suggested and also googled "spf" and got similar info from a Lovers Lab thread. However, I still couldn't find the folder from which to import the NPC I made with a new game ;(
Your lip colour thing sounds a bit weird. I'm certainly no expert, but I'm one of the few still answering questions around here, when I have the slightest idea of which direction to point people.
Instructions on making an NPC preset:
Name your NPC in the appropriate manner for a preset. check box for preset and uncheck unique. Have a look at the other preset actors for more details on how to set them up.
Using spf:
Create a character of the appropriate race and gender. Use command spf name. Use only one word for the name or it doesn't seem to save.
Create NPC in Creation Kit. Use Import button to open folder where spf save file will be if it was done correctly and saved properly. Select the file and finish editing NPC. Continue as per usual.
If you have specific questions I will try and help. I don't really play Skyrim or CK much anymore, but I'll try :P
When you edit ingame and have finished with showracemenu and you press "R", do you name the character (for eg) "spf03", just like that but without the quotes? Then if you use the import button in CK (next to the Haircolour tab) which of the Skyrim folders should the file be in?
I really appreciate your help on this ;)
Open console commands, type spf charactername
I.e. for a character called Freddy spf Freddy
When you try to Import there will be Freddy.npc file right there in the first location you open. Sorry, if I wasn't clear enough.
Thank you so much! I've finally grasped what you were trying to say and it worked like a charm! Sorry for being such a numpty but I got there in the end. I've put your instructions into a notepad file in case I forget or someone else has the same problem, and if I use it I'll definitely give you credit! If you're interested, here's the link to some screenies of my new presets. Thanks again!

Proceedure;
Run Skyrim
Run console command showracemenu and edit the face you want
Go back into console and type SPF <character name>, this will create the file <character name>.npc in your Skyrim directory
BACKUP and then REMOVE the contents of Data\textures\actors\character\character assets\tintmasks
In Creation Kit, edit the NPC , go to the 'Character Gen Parts' tab and IMPORT from the <character name>.npc file you generated.
Save changes and then press CTRL-F4. You will be prompted to 'Export face gen data for all selected npcs', confirm that.
(If you open the .dds file in 'Skyrim\Data\textures\actors\character\FaceGenData\FaceTint\<npc name>.esp ' in GIMP (for example)
then you will see the correctly coloured lips. If you want, have a look at this file before you change anything and you won't see the lip colour)
RESTORE the content of Data\textures\actors\character\character assets\tintmasks from backup.
Run Skyrim and lips will be correctly coloured.
