Barred doors scripting (?) error - help please

Hi, I am trying to make a barred door across the entrance to a city mod I have on the backburner but first thing's first - I can't even get normal barred doors to work in game. (I have checked for documentation/tutorials everywhere and found nothing which is odd)

Basically any barred doors added by my mod (I have linked the door and bar together) display the message "this door is barred" and then open anyway - clipping through the bar. The bar when activated does nothing and can't be raised. I even tried using the PrefabWarehouse doors but they do the same.

Any ideas what I'm missing?
