Where us gamers choose to die!

Ok, I am going to put this out there, take it as you will. Since this seems to be a topic for our group, I am going to give you my opinion on EVOLVE. And NO I have not played it, but I probably will one of these days. I do know that MOST of us were / are looking for a Left 4 Dead ½ replacement with similar game play but different. Up until all the reviews and people ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ about Evolve, it looked very promising to all of us.

You see semi positive and positive reviews from game reviewers, very few totally negative. If you read the steam reviews, you see people ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ about this, that and the other thing. Let me tell you how I take all of this, not that you have to agree with me or disagree with me, I just want you understand my thinking of why this game might be the next game for us to try. If not now, maybe sometime in the near future once the game goes on sale.

What I do when I read these reviews:

#1. I don’t read just the good, or just the bad.

#2. I disregard any review sections that are all about DLC, prices and ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ about 2k Games marketing practices. This has ZERO impact on whether the game is good or bad!!

#3. I take the common points from review sites and actual players and group them together.

If you do the above, what you end up with is a good representation of how “good” a game is, or how “bad” it is.

Now, when it comes to evolve, the common ♥♥♥♥♥ about the game is 2k’s marketing and how they have DAY 1 DLC for purchase instead of just including it in the game. They are charging too much for the game and all the DLC that is available. So, since you strip that crap away, because regardless if this is right or wrong, it really has NOTHING to do with if the game is fun to play.

So, if you group common items together:

The bad:

1. The learning curve is pretty steep for new players, especially ones that are new to left 4 dead, team fortress (type games) and players that are just very bad at communication and team based games.

2. There are times (while being hunters) with down time and you have limited action as you are tracking down the monster again.

3. Match Making for public games can be bad because of #1 unless you are playing an all friends game.

4. Maps and game play can seem repetitive as even with new maps and game play types, it still boils down to 4 hunters VS 1 monster, in all game modes.

The good:

1. Fresh game play type that is similar to left 4 dead, coop team play with new game mechanics.

2. Next gen graphics and visuals and play as cool monsters.

3. Has a limited progression system for both the hunters and monster. I think this is a great game mechanic! Kill the monster FAST and QUICK before he has a chance to evolve because as he gets stronger and evolves, he becomes harder and harder to kill and the tables will turn to YOU being the hunted if you don’t kill him fast enough.

4. I must put this a good, PAID DLC does NOT impact those who have NOT purchased it. It ONLY prevents you from playing as said character DLC, it does NOT mean that you can’t play against it. You will still see the character and you will can still be in that game, you just can’t play as that character yourself. Most of the DLC is just cosmetic anyhow.

There is TONS more out good there, but all in all, the game might be expensive, DLC sucks balls, but if you discredit all the butt hurt bone heads out there ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ about that, and read just the part of the reviews where they actually are talking about the game, you will find that while some don’t care for it that much (those people also probably do not care for l4d either), most love playing it and say it is a lot of fun short of the down times while hunting for the monster. And some say the arenas are limited and lack some diversity. Because even though they are very different, they still feel and play the same.

My opinion is, as a group we should definitely try this game out, abet, maybe wait until it goes on sale or buy it from a 3rd party reseller maybe. And it should be noted, that EVEN the “Good” reviews complain about the same things as the “Bad” reviews and even the “Bad” reviews say similar things that are good about the game as the “Good” reviews. And right now, good VS bad reviews are Positive (4878) and Negative (2383) and most of the negative are ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ about DLC and price.

As I said, over all, most people like the game as being fun, but ♥♥♥♥♥ about minor things and server issues and match making, being kicked... etc (same problems as we see today with left 4 dead ) and the biggest ♥♥♥♥♥ which has nothing to do with if the game is fun has to do with money and DLC. So take it as you will, I for one will definitely be trying this game out eventually.
