SVTFOE Season 4 Review
The Review

Oh boy, where do I even start?
That season was a train wreck. It feels like they fired the people who worked on the past 3 seasons and hired a bunch of teenagers who write weird romance fanfictions on the internet.

The pacing was all over the place, and the romantic aspects were rushed to an unimaginable level. Some questions remained unanswered, some new questions popped up just to not be answered, a lot of episodes wasted a lot of time with pointless stuff and that ended up taking time that could be used for literally anything important that was going on AND... the conclusion to the final problem was really messed up, and they tried to sweep the actual consequences under the rug by making everything happen way too fast for us to process.

Ok, so, y'all remember when we had two seasons to develop Marco's feelings towards Jackie, and that was slowly worked upon until we got to the point where they actually shared their feelings and got together? And remember all the time that passed with the conflicts Marco had because of having feelings for Star while dating Jackie, which led to them having a healthy and normal break up?

Yeah, toss aaaaaaall that over the window baby, because in the spam of 21 episodes of Season 4 (and some from the end of season 3) we've got:

:ShinyHeart: Star and Tom dating again;
:ShinyHeart: Star and Marco kissing while she is still dating Tom;
:ShinyHeart: Tom finding out about the kiss, confronting Star, not getting upset about it BUT Star getting upset that he didn't tell her that before;
:ShinyHeart: Marco having special moments with Kelly;
:ShinyHeart: Marco and Kelly becoming "break up buddies", which just means they were seeing each other without establishing a relationship status;
:ShinyHeart: Star getting flustered because of a girl that was summoned by Buff Marco to help him in the Neverzone;
:ShinyHeart: Marco cancelling that whole ordeal with Kelly a few days after;
:ShinyHeart: Marco and Tom having bromance scenes;
:ShinyHeart: Marco going cuckoo because of his obsession over Star, that led to them both breaking the Blood Moon Curse, which... did absolutely nothing;
:ShinyHeart: Some very questionable moments from Janna with pretty much everyone;
:ShinyHeart: Jackie found a girlfriend in France;
:ShinyHeart: Tom breaking up with Star because he knew Star and him did not have a future ahead of them because she would end up with Marco;
:ShinyHeart: And finally... Marco and Star finally having a goddamn conversation about that and getting together... IN THE MIDDLE OF A FUCKING BATTLE THAT WAS DESTROYING MEWNI!

... WHY? That was all so fast I was barely able to remember all of them, AND I JUST FINISHED WATCHING IT! They wanted so bad to end the cartoon with Starco, that they put all of that in a SINGLE SEASON! WHEN BEFORE THEY SPENT 2 SEASONS WORKING OUT MARCO'S FEELINGS FOR JACKIE, A CHARACTER WITH LITTLE TO NO BACKSTORY AT ALL!

I wasn't really a fan of Jackie. On the first season I just didn't really care, but as the second season started to give hints that Jarco was actually going to happen, I got progressively more troubled by the fact that they were not giving Jackie any attention to development, since I expected we would be knowing more about her since she was Marco's love interest. But instead, we got the same we always had: she being a cool "skater girl", and not really having the spotlight for development. Funny enough, the most development we got out of her was when she broke up with Marco, and we were able to see her more serious and mature side. But with what happened on the 4th season... oh boy, I sure wish they had just sticked up with Jackie, evenif they didn't give her much development.

Also, that whole thing they tried to do with the positive messages and representativeness on the show would have worked great... if it wasn't so suddenly shoved into the FOURTH season. Like, out of absolutely nowhere, BAM, all the teenage characters are giving life lessons and advice, Star is bi, Jackie found a girlfriend, etc etc etc. It just felt... forced, to just start doing that in the fourth (and last) season of the show, especially considering their other attempts at that were hidden, like the bystanders in the middle of Love Sentence's show.

Point is, they tried so much to focus on romance and the whole "good messages" thing Steven Universe does that it ended up rushed and forced. I know that most of the original Starco fans, like me, got really upset with how that was given to us. Should have never happened if it were to end so abrupt like that.

And now, let's move out of the lovey dovey shit and get to the consequences of Star's actions at the end of the season.

Oh boy. Killing magic, huh? Such a nice plan Star, wow, 10/10. Well, except for, you know...

:hwstar: Killing all of the members of the High Comission;
:hwstar: Killing Glossaryck;
:hwstar: Killing all of the spells ever created by any queen, which we all know were very sentient and living inside the wand;
:hwstar: Most likely dooming all of the Mewman and Monster race if, at any point, someone as powerful as Globgor rises and tries to take control of the land;
:hwstar: Distorting Earth by adding Mewni and god knows what else came together to the lands of Echo Creek;
:hwstar: Leaving Tom forever trapped on Earth and unable to go back to Hell, as the portals cannot be opened anymore without magic.

Yeah, seems like the show should be named Star From The Forces of Evil.

And to conclude this rant... wasted characters / bullshits.

:UltimateStar: River just went from a silly and not-so-smart dad to a complete braindead man of the woods. That... hurt;
:UltimateStar: Tom, who was one of the few characters that actually developed and evolved within the seasons was completely tossed aside for the most important parts;
:UltimateStar: Pudding lets you keep your memories in the magic dimension. Because why the fuck wouldn't it?
:UltimateStar: Marco's counselor also being a knight from Mewni... would have been fun, if it wasn't literally put there only for the "haha giggles" and if it wasn't, ya know... utter bullcrap? Yeah;
:UltimateStar: WE DID NOT SEE MARCO IN A BUTTERFLY FORM, HE HAD THE MOONS ON HIS CHEEKS, HE SHOULD HAVE TRANSFORMED TOO! (Ok, this didn't really upset me, it's just something that I've been wanting to see ever since he acquired his marks)

Well, that's it. I feel betrayed. I loved the 3 first seasons so much, it was such a lovely ride, with the right amount of action, mystery, slice of life and a liiiittle bit of romance. And then they just threw it in the shredder and punched us in the face.

:notestar: Thanks for the ride fellas. :notestar:
:shinealight: Maybe I'll see you in another fandom. :shinealight:

TL;DR

That was a complete rushed and forced bullshit, fuck it.

Miserable Marco Song is already up!
