Welcome to the World of Red Dead

The Red Dead series is a video game series created by Rockstar Games, consisting of two standalone games and associated downloadable content.

The series is influenced by both spaghetti westerns and the realities of the 19th and early 20th century American West. Due to the time period in which the games are set, the horse, stagecoach, and train are the primary methods of transportation.

Gameplay varies between the two games in the series. The first game, Red Dead Revolver, follows a purely linear story line with fixed, limited locations. The second game, Red Dead Redemption, provides the player with an open world setting and more options for side missions and random exploration. Gunplay features heavily in both games.

All the games take place in the final years of the American Old West (1834-1920). Both main titles are third-person shooters, but there are key gameplay differences between both.

"MICROSOFT SITE LISTS RED DEAD REDEMPTION AS 'COMPATIBLE' WITH WINDOWS"

Rockstar has not confirmed a PC version of Red Dead Redemption, but an official Microsoft website shows the game is compatible with recent versions of Windows.

The compatibility page, originally spotted by NeoGAF user Lazaro, says Red Dead Redemption will work with Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 8.1. Whether this is a legitimate listing or just an error is unclear, so IGN has reached out to Rockstar and Microsoft for clarification.

In an investor call last summer, Take-Two’s CEO listed Red Dead Redemption among the franchises his company considers “permanent.” Additionally, Rockstar has teased a sequel to IGN’s 2010 Game of the Year contender, saying “We love Red Dead too – and are thrilled that so many of you loved John Marston’s tale and are excited for more epic Western action.”
