Need a client? Download HexChat → new network named anything → edit info, your nick, server address → connect. I think. If that doesn't work or you're horribly lazy you can open http://irc.inconvenient.horse for a KiwiIRC widget that works but just isn't as good as a full client.

If you need a basic gameplay overview: Standard setup is 3 townies, a cop, a doctor, and two mafiats. During night phases (which the game typically starts with), the cop chooses whose role they want to attempt to learn, the doctor chooses someone to protect, and the mafiats kill someone. Town-aligned players (including cop/doc) have to try to figure out who the mafiats are and lynch them. Mafiats need to throw off suspicion until town-aligned players no longer outnumber them.

When we get the hang of that, there's TONS of variants to try out.
