What you need:
> Freelancer (on your own there, but it's easy to torrent. For info on Freelancer check http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freelancer_(video_game) )
> Freelancer Mod Manager (http://www.moddb.com/games/freelancer/downloads/freelancer-mod-manager-14-beta-4)
> Discovery Mod (http://www.discoveryfl.com/)
> Our server name: Boatasia



The server is basically on Discovery defaults right now, same as most other servers. Connect up, make your character, go nuts! We'll be organizing battles and other events as more people start playing.



How do I install the Discovery mod?
Download the mod and Freelancer Mod Manger above. Install Freelancer Mod Manager, then double-click the .flmod file you get. Freelancer Mod Manager will pick it up automatically and extract it for you. From there, open Freelancer Mod Manager and click "Activate" on Discovery. You'll customize the settings (none of which matter for the server) and you'll be good to go!



How do I connect to the server?
Before you try to connect in game, you need to make one quick change.

Go to your Freelancer install folder and click on the EXE subdirectory. Right-click freelancer.ini and make sure it isn't read-only. If it is, uncheck that. Once that's handled, open it.

Find the [ListServer] heading.
Find the following line:
> ;;;hostname = gun.fllistserver.com ;GUN server provided by www.fllistserver.com

Change this to
> hostname = gun.fllistserver.com ;GUN server provided by www.fllistserver.com

Save the file, exit, and open Freelancer. From there, you just need to hit MULTIPLAYER, and it'll open a familiar, simple server browser. Sort by name to find Boatasia quickly and away you go!



What are the rules to the server?
This is entirely new ground for all of us, so for right now the only rule is not to be a complete ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ♥♥♥♥♥♥. Freelancer is much like the old Elite games though, so it's significantly rougher than, say, Diablo 2! Player killing should be expected here, and nobody is going to care if you whine to the admins saying someone killed you 10 times, stole cargo off your corpse, and then they made groaning noises over the chat. That's the game, ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥!

However, there are limits. Spawnkilling the same person day after day after day or newbie punking the same area for weeks on end isn't going to be tolerated.
