Hey everyone, you might remember this game and company from two previous announcements I made about them.

I have linked them both below but I also want to remind you here what happened.

This company released their first game, called Game Dev Tycoon in 2012 and uploaded a tampered with version to pirate sites, trying to use this to prove how many sales are being lost through piracy (because as we all know, every cracked copy download = one lost sale, or no we don't, because we are not stupid). I'm sorry, they were trying to prove how "stolen" copies = lost sales, because they are absolutely braindead and don't know basic law and the difference between copying and stealing.

After that, they claimed over 93% of the people that played the game pirated it. And after that fiasco, the game ended up selling millions of copies and yet, to this day they are still playing the victim.

Fast forward to their next game, Tavern Keeper. They announced this game will have Denuvo, after which they created an FAQ on their forums full of misinformation. They also created another thread supposedly for discussing their decision to include Denuvo, then they proceeded to delete almost every post made in it and banning several people. Then they even deleted the thread itself and opened a new one, then deleted posts, and so on.

The rest of the information will be in the announcements I made before, but an important point here is that Patrick, one of the heads of the studio, is the one behind all this. He actively lied, gaslighted people, deleted constructive criticism, posts providing data against Denuvo, was condescending and much more. He's done this for over a year.

Now, back to the current time, they decided to remove Denuvo before release, without making a single statement about the whole fiasco that's been going on for over a year.

As you probably know, when Denuvo is removed before release I remove the review entirely. But since this company is even worse than Funcom, the review will stay up for this game (and will continue to be Not recommended), though it will of course be edited to explain Denuvo is not in it anymore and why the review is still there.

That's an issue with every place where I posted a link to the group unfortunately, and while I'll try to fix them, I'll definitely be missing some. I'll do the Funcom ones today at least.

Should probably update the Full Review links for Funcom games like Conan Exiles. Because it still appears to use the old "DenuvoGames" Group Name

They can't keep half-assing it like that, though - they'll have to choose whether they want to be more like SEGA or more like CDPR at some point. The current way, they'll get none of the usual goodwill benefit from publishing DRM-free games which is supposed to make people pirate your games less due to offering a good service - not while they keep using the controversial Denuvo at the other end of their supply chain.

CAPCOM has reached that "schizophernic corporation" stage a while ago. When a company gets larger, you're bound to have some internal disagreements between managers sooner or later. While it keeps growing by about a hundred employees every year, their CEO isn't really invested into the day to day and is more interested in managing their huge wine estate, which means the company has no clear direction on the issue of DRM/preservation. And it shows:
On one hand they claim that mods are like piracy: damaging for their reputation, but on the other hand they release their games on GOG which has embraced mods, ownership, and the DRM-free model.

While Capcom still continues to release Denuvo infested games on Steam, they released RE1 HD Remaster & RE0 on GOG on the 30th October
