Dont give me that "where is your heart at?" nonsence you know good and well if you desire to play these games then your heart is not in the right place!
Now that being said;
I have no problem playing violent video games because:
1) My faith is in Jesus Christ and that is enough.
2) It's a game. Period. Whatever happens has no affect on my life.
On the other hand, I agree with Smitty that it's a matter of the heart. If you are mature enough to handle the content, then there's no problem.
Telling him his heart is not in the right place is being disrespectful? or "putting him down" ?
Wow ill think twice next time im about to tell the truth. Go on playing those games with sex drugs and violence... Wishing you could do all those things in real life without getting punished just like in the game. When i talk about violent video games i mean the REALLY VIOLENT ones, such as Grand theft Auto, Saints row, La noar, Resedent Evil, Bioshock, and things like that.
I guess I underestimated the level of Faith in this group, I would love to believe your right because I like some of those games too... But my Lord tells me otherwise. God bless you reguardless.
OR yelling curse words at other players as they kill you...
The Bible clearly teaches that you can sin in your thoughts in addition to actions.
Now I understand your concern about the violence in many have, and some games are really violent, but in my experience in playing these games I feel little to know desire to curse or to try to end each player I find in a bloody end, but rather do the best I can for the game it is. For a game like Mass Effect where you have a choice, I always go the more "good" route, but there is still death throughout the game. Other games, like Gears of War, just have such content nativley in the game, so I just accept that is how it is made, and move on.
Now back to the chapter in the bible I mentioned earlier and get to my point. In it, Paul talks about how there are believers who are able to eat sacrificial meat without any concern, because that part of eat doesn't bother them because they believe in a soverign God who is in charge of all. But some struggle with that, and so Paul asks that those who are ok with eat to not eat such meat around those people.
I think a similar thing is happening here. There are some christians who are unaffected by the content of games because they understand that God is still the King over all things, and these games are just a part of the world and not something that can effect those who are the children of God. Others will have a harder time with that, and that is different from person to person.
I myself am able to handle swearing outside of taking the Lord's name in vain, and violence doesn't bother me at all and I don't crave it, but I won't play games like The Witcher because of certain content in those games that I know I cannot handle. But, even though I can't handle it, there will be others who can.
Sorry for the long post. I just thought that a discussion like this should have some verses included into the discussion.
