Can't import SMD?
Are you trying to import onto a hidden Armature? It should be unhidden automatically, but perhaps something has gone wrong there.

VTA vertices not linking to mesh
This happens with the VTA format. The file you are importing as just ancient and broken.

You could also have a bone scaled to 0. This can't be exported.

When I import .dmx animation I get this error
Looks like the file contain non-unicode text data. It should be utf-8.

SMD file appears as an error when importing to TF2
This means that the model failed to compile. There might not be anything wrong with the export itself.

[Feature Request] Import DMX flex channel animation data to Blender Shape key animation
I meant a Blender add-on which reads and writes Source Filmmaker DMX files, sorry to be vague. Sorry also that I don't have the time or motivation to do this myself.

How do I set the exported unit to convert from cm to in?
Units can be configured in the Scene Properties panel. But the Source tools don't pay any attention to them. You will need to scale your model manually.

Commercial use - Can I use imported models commercialy?
That means "no".
