Exporting meshes with vertex groups to smd?
I have this weapon that I made for Barathrum in DotA 2.
I already did the vertex groups and weights after I attached the mesh to the proper bone.
Right now is that I get a warning when I export to SMD.
It says that there is an Armature modifier but the model "Cube.001" already has an envelope.
Therefore it ignores it.

Anyone can help me with this? I just want to export the model with the vertex group weights and settings. I can't submit the item when the chains are stiff or frozen.

Well theres a problem. I can't remove the object parented to the bone. This is because its stated like that at the requirements page for the DotA2. For weapons, theres a specific bone that you must really parent the model to.

In Source, inter-model parenting is done through bone names. Parenting in Blender has no effect whatosever on the model's parent in Source.

The solution to your problem is removing the bone parent. Why don't you just try it and report back?

okay. I'll try it later. I'll also send the blend file a few hours later when I have the time.

Okay. so I just tested it. Unparented the object. Seems like the position is messed up. The chains are moving terribly in the air but thats normal. The model needs to be at the proper position. Now I try to change the location of the model but it doesnt change in-game. The model appears to be stuck but the vertex groups are working.

It sounds to me like you don't have matching bone names. If you upload the blend I can see what's going on for myself.

If you want to reposition the object, parent it to the armature normally. then the Tools will export its position relative to the armature.

I already sent the blend file. That is the version with the object still parented to the bone.
Just try to export to SMD and you get that "armature modifier ignored" warning.
If possible, help me check it in-game if you get a problem with the positioning when unparented

Ehwot? I thought you were bone parenting it to the character's armature, not its own! No wonder things went mental when you unparented.

Use the Clear Parent operator but this time choose "Keep Transforms". Then re-parent it to the armature normally.

I assume that "weapon4_0" is a bone on the character model?

There's a slider for the Blender Foundation, who make Blender, but not one for me. Unless I'm very much mistaken.
