Hmm doublejump (the springs) isn't working

Does this game end after you defeat the creature in the forest?

I can't double jump after getting the springs. I've tried reloading the last save point and starting a new game, but it doesn't work. When I get the springs and try to jump mid-air like the game tells me to, nothing happens. Plz help
