why the grind when mods are a thing?

Define "what it should be". Why is the game designer's version the way the game should be? They don't have the player's best interest in mind. They implement horrible RNGs and heavy grindings not because they want to give the players the max fun, but because they want to hook players on this game for as long as possible. That is definitely a cheat in a greater scale which takes advantage of human psychology.

But it seems like your opinion is that: whatever arbitrary rules the designers implemented to make players' life miserable isn't a cheat, but whatever mod players (who actually experienced the game and know the pain points) installed to make the game more enjoyable is a cheat. Something seems terribly wrong in this argument.

Additionally, there are two problems with your board game analogy:

1. Mod users are not changing "every" rule of the game. If people hate every rule of this game, they just go play another game, as simple as that. They use mod because they hate specific aspects of the game, but still love others - and the aspects they love probably outweigh those they want to change with mod.

2. People do change some rules when playing board games for convenience. When some elements in a game are too complicated for a relaxing family gaming session, people may just leave it out for this time. Also, in UNO, despite the official rules regarding the +4 and +2 cards, how they are actually played differs from game to game. Even the same people can agree on different rules. Because we are flexible, we know the rules are not absolute. People play games for fun. If changing a rule makes the game more fun, people change it.

Let's return to Relink. Think about this: what makes a feature a cheat? Consider the full assist mode. Suppose everything of this game stays exactly the same, except for that Cygames didn't implement the full assist mode. Now a modder came up with this design to allow for AFK farming under extreme difficulty and facilitate the "no damage" achievements - is this modded version of full assist mode a cheat?

This entire verbal diarrhea should have never happened. "The way it should be" is the way it is designed. If you change the rules it's now a different game, one that you designed. Hope that helps you to understand these extremely simply concepts better.

Just think instead of spewing out such an embarrassing wall of ignorance. Aren't you ashamed of yourself?

No, I'm not. It's not embarrassing at all. I have played enough games and watch enough movies to know the importance of taking my destiny into my own hands ... especially when that doesn't infringe on others' rights.

I'm sad that seeing others enjoy the game they way they want hurts you so much.
