What, like Carian Greatsword / Piercer / Flashsword, etc?
Well, there's a couple of things to consider:

1) They deal pure magic damage, no hybrid like your main weapon, so if your enemy happens to have weakness to magic damage and more resistant to physical - you will slap them real good. Also it counters shields, unless they are specifically anti-magic.
2) They tend to have high reach, comparable to that of actual ultra weapons - you just don't have to invest additional 10 strength and 20 endurance to equip them.

Pure magic mages generally don't spend too many stats into STR / DEX, so their actual physical weapons are usually not that strong and in the end these pure magic weapons will hit much harder on average.

Crystal balls are visible from the start of the game and usually offer a Golem as one of their three options to direct you towards. If you want golems, beeline towards one and use it.

That said, Golems arn't particularly exciting. Golden items are simply x2 of whatever the base item is, and Diamond items x4. There's nothing special you get by upgrading them, it's strictly an inventory-saving method. Can be cool to use a junk gold or diamond item on a fairy to pivot to something else in the late game though.

No boss requires a gold item to be beaten. Look for synergies, not stats.

EVery damn new multiplayer game has 1 million players nowadays. Drops to 30K after two weeks. And this is an open beta nobody bought the game yet chill.
