how did that "investigation" go

There's a recurring bug that happens whenever I alt-tab, my game stops responding to keyboard commands when the UI is open. I can move around, use my staff, sword, and ride the buggy, but whenever I open any UI, be it the menu or the inventory, the game stops responding to keyboard commands and I can only use the mouse.

Nah, I think you do have to go into a bit more detail because others won't be able to see why you think this is relevant to what's being discussed.

Also Renoir didn't try to intervene with the canvas and Aline right away, it's just that Aline took longer and longer "descents" into the canvas.

Again: What's your point? She's an adult woman. Yes, what she's doing is stupid but it's a decision she makes for herself, she harms no one (unless you subscribe to the logic that creating sentient life is evil but destroying it somehow isn't).

Besides: You mentioned the time dilation yourself, and yet the painted family only finds out they are immortal and don't age after the fracture, so how much time could realistically have passed?
Painted Alicia is 16, you think no one would have raised an eyebrow if, say, 5 years had passed and she had not aged a bit?

We don't know if Renoir tried to talk to Aline before trying to destroy the canvas but based on his behavior during the game it doesn't look like he's the kind of person to do that.
But even if he tried talking and she refused, she gets to make that decision.

Could they be in some visitors’ hands? I’d recommend close the tavern, clearing the tables, washing the mugs, and double-checking...

If there are others at the moment it's unknown, but the most likely answer is there may be more since well, there are defeintly people without cybernatics most likely still around.

Can't say I'm entirely new but not a solid veteran either. Played before the release but I think I only got up to C1.
